Tempus just keeps fugiting right along when you're in WoW

Justin Olivetti has written an intriguing post on his blog Time Well Wasted, all about how we invest time in our favorite MMOs. He asks the question: how do we choose to spend our time, and what are your options once you've reached a level beyond which you can't progress? Do you create alts and re-climb the ladder? Do you learn to roleplay? Do you become a mentor?Although his post is geared toward World of Warcraft, it's applicable to most MMOs, and even to some social virtual worlds, with modifications. At what point do you decide that you're done with the game, and move on? Especially considering you'll face this issue again?
(Thanks, Justin!)

I hit 70 (highest level in WoW at the moment) on my (holy/healing) Alliance paladin several months ago. It was my first character to hit the level limit.
After healing for a while after hitting 70 I realized that I don't want to always be stuck in that role, I wanted flexibility, particularly if there happen to be more healers than needed. So I more or less parked the paladin except to do things with friends here and there, and have been focusing on levelling my warlock to 70.
I also want to try most the other classes to level 40 or so if possible.
And at least one of them I'd like to level to 70 on the Horde side, I feel like I've missed out on 50% of the game as far as quest lines go. (I know that 60-70 is mirrored for both sides for the most part)
Raiding / end game sounds too much like a second job. I want to see some end game locations once or twice, but loot is meh to me, I'd be more interested in seeing the place for the art and effort that was put into it.
So I have plans... I'll be at it for a while.

In Final Fantasy XI once you reach lvl 75 (The highest lvl cap) your really just starting your quest. I have friends who have been playing the game since it started and are still working through missions and quests and obtaining armour. Having 18 (soon to be 20+) jobs you can play on a single chara helps too. FFXI was really designed too keep you playing ...well, forever really. Between exp, merits, Dynamis, Limbus, Gods, missions, crafting you'll just never in your lifetime do it all. Thats why the ol' relic of a game is still going.
I know so many people who quit FFXI for WoW, then came back too FFXI once they ran out of things to do on WoW.
Great post btw :D

I do everything possible. I always have one or two alts going for when I want some quick levels, or feel nostalgic about the old content... Plus I max out my main's gear and stats. Crafting is also a big part of my MMO experiences. In WoW for example I didn't stop on my main until I had every JC recipe available since there were people depending on me.
