Users persevere despite Second Life problems

As predicted, today saw record concurrencies in popular virtual world Second Life, today being the second day of record concurrencies, despite ongoing database problems in the underlying Second Life grid technology.
A widespread outage this-morning resulting in a temporary closure, and another systems failure just minutes ago functioned as mere punctuation for a steady stream of minor problems throughout the day - few of which appear to be directly load-related.
The second systems failure took place at 6:45PM SLT (US Pacific), with 45,260 users online, and was directly responsible for the disconnection of approximately 10,000 users in short order. Systems began recovering at around 7:12PM, with user numbers climbing rapidly, as many hundreds of users reconnected to the Second Life grid each minute. Linden Lab chose that moment to publish an acknowledgement of the problems, apparently moments after they were resolved.
Whether these are purely asset system troubles, or whether there's some broader issues at work - it's clear that whatever is causing the current problems, Linden Lab's virtual world hasn't found a fix for their current problems, but that users are sticking by them anyway.
Update: The chart below shows the last 24 hours of concurrency, ending at 7:45PM SLT:

It kind of begs the question as to whether this is genuine loyalty or a consequence of nobody else offering this level of ownership and development toolset within a 3D virtual space.
I'd like to believe the former having invested so much since Halloween 2006 in Second Life antics, but...
