Yesterday in Second Life: Second Life Daily News
Filed under: Second Life

Yesterday in Second Life there was:
- 19,793 new signups bringing the total to 12,030,055 signups.
- A peak concurrency of 61,927 (a new record!) at 1:55PM, and a minimum concurrency of 34,337 at 1:10AM. Median concurrency for the day was 46,128.
- The Grid Stability Index for the day was 0.95 (lower is better).
- Reports of problems and difficulties were nearly absent today, unusually, despite the high concurrency.
- Linden Lab had phone troubles again. Since the issue isn't marked as resolved, we assume that it is still ongoing. Curiously, at 11:46, an update said "While this issue is being worked on, your calls will connect." which we can only interpret as "While it is being fixed, it will behave as if it is already fixed." - but perhaps that is supposed to mean something else. We're just not sure.

Below is the day's concurrency graphed for yesterday (left), and the corresponding day from the previous week (right)

I may be mistaken, but that also seems to be a record low for the Grid Stability Index - all the more impressive for a Sunday with a record setting peak concurrency.

I don't think there's been a lower figure - though I'll have to check back and find out, I've got data going back to early 2006.
Since the index relies on watching large-scale movements of people, I'm not actually sure if people were especially tolerant on Sunday or the grid was especially smooth. Either way, the actual concurrency curve was much smoother than is usual.
Taking the anecdotal evidence of reduced trouble reports into account, I think I lean towards the unusually-well-behaved theory.
