Square's next MMO summoned at GDC?
Filed under: MMO industry, New titles, Concerto Gate
Now the latest news on the wire is that Square's Taku Murata may talk about their big new MMO at GDC next week. If you look at his personal page on the GDC website, it says that he'll be talking about how they plan to use their new engine not only in the development of the new Final Fantasy for the Playstation 3, but also for a "new MMORPG in development." With the game development climate being what it is in the absence of E3, it's entirely plausible that they'd take the veil off of the game at GDC. We'll just have to sit around and wait another week to see if every Square fanboy's dream comes true.

Hello? Chris? Yes, he's here. Ok. K, hold on.
Chris, 2004 is on the phone, they want their news back.
Welcome to the sick, masochistic world of Square Enix fandom. Where they laugh and spit on you as you beg for the slightest morsel of information.
We've known about this mmo for years (since about the time FFXI: Chains of Promathia came out, whenever that was). Funny how everyone still knows NOTHING about it. Nada. No concept, no art, no title, Nothing.
Square's response: "Do you know who we are?! We're japanese jesus! We do what we want, and we want to tell you nothing!"
To their credit, at least their not taking the American dev approach:
"The release date? Um... tomorrow? Yes uh... tomorrow morning."
10 minutes later
"We have decided to delay the game for another month. Err 2 months. We decided it would be in the best interest of the players to ship the game with art. Three months. 18 months at the most.
