Maria Liberati cooks up an event in Second Life

Filed under: Real life, Culture, Events, in-game, Crafting, News items, Opinion, Second Life, Free-to-play, Virtual worlds

Second Life gets ready to nosh -- former supermodel-turned-celebrity chef Maria Liberati will make her first virtual appearance at the Second Life Writer's Club today at 12 PM SLT (despite what the press release says). She will be there to promote her book The Basic Art of Italian Cooking, and to answer questions from the audience.

I'm always pleased to see more authors take advantage of the benefits of a virtual book tour: the travel time is negligible, your appearance need not reflect your actual state, you can do the tour in your bedclothes if you want to, etc. With voice chat, an author can even read excerpts from her book and answer questions from the audience. In fact, an author could do multiple cities (virtual worlds) in one afternoon without leaving her hotel room. This sort of thing will only become more prevalent as virtual worlds get more sophisticated and accepted by the mainstream. We're surfing the edge, here, folks -- dive in with both feet.
