My first ever guild was in DAoC. We started it up a week after launch. There were some initial personality conflict problems which resulted in dissolving the first iteration and a subsequent reformation a couple of weeks later. Almost every member in the first try was in the second version.

It was an awesome experience as guilds go. I often think back on it with pleasure. We capped out at around 300 members staying around there for several years. Eventually we all, all 300, moved on to other games. As we have run into one another over the years, when we identify each other conclusively, there is an immediate invite to what ever our current guild is or an invite to an alliance. Though there may not be contact with each of us for several years the memory of that first guild possess an incredible bonding and a life long game friendship that still urns deep after nearly 10 years.

The first guild I ever joined was an Everquest guild named Solidaire. We were one of the first guilds on the Lanys T'Vyl server. We were a relatively small guild that didn't last too long due to a variety of reasons: the leader leaving the game, players reaching raid levels and leaving for other guilds, etc..

Solidaire had two claims to infamy, unfortunately:

1) We inadvertently got a bunch of Guides banned from EQ after they joined us in our weekly arena fight night. It was a blast when the guides showed up and fought against us! Unfortunately, it was also against the rules and the GMS ported in and sacked them.

2) One of our players (Aymen Tadat, or some variation of that name), as it turned out, was the person who started the unofficial Fan Faires that were eventually taken over by SOE. He was hired as a GM by Sony. He was then fired by Sony after it was determined that he had given Kunark weapons to a guildmate (they had since joined a different guild at this point named Haxor Craxor. The problem is that the weapon were dragon drops for a dragon that had not yet been defeated...

After Solidaire dissolved, I eventually joined a guild named Second Covenant, which was a great, casual player friendly guild. Eventually, I left EQ and even though I've played other games, I've never joined another guild, preferring to stay completely out of the politics, petty infighting, delusions of grandeur, selfishness, raid calendars, etc.. that tend to accompany--in my opinion--the majority of guilds.

My first official guild was Rosebriar in Everquest. Great bunch of folks, and as far as I know they are still active over there and I'm still in it.

A handful of real-life friends and I (along with the requisite number of folks I had to badger and nag into signing the charter.... I'm looking at you, Kilawhar!) formed a WoW guild more for our own personal chat channel and tabard than anything else.

1993 - formed the "clan" Death DealerZ aka DDZ for multi-play doom over telephone modem at a local BBS.

Still together! Still strong players. Expand slowly into other games.
