Wonderland creator promoting new grid

Lalinda Lovell, the person behind the Wonderland site that was the focus of the Sky News virtual child sex scandal is apparently promoting a new grid, called litesim. The server software apparently is under development and due to be released under GPL Free Software licenses at some future date, so it isn't exactly clear if the code is based on Open Simulator or some other backend.

The system sports three tiers of users: Free, Basic and Premium, the latter two both having a monthly fee and cashout options. Lovell's advertising for this grid emphasizes "Freedom and privacy guaranteed" however the litesim terms of service specifically state that a number of things (like child pornography, and anything that violates either US or UK laws - that would include simulations of underage sexuality) are not permitted.

Granted, some operators say one thing in their terms of service, while permitting or encouraging something far different. It remains to be seen which this is, but we expect that it will be getting quite a bit of undercover scrutiny from (eg) Sky News and from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre.

We don't know if Lovell is just promoting this new grid, or if she is actually the avatar of litesim CEO Gareth Nelson. As far as the future of litesim goes, it may not really matter which.

For the purposes of accuracy simulations of underage sexuality are *not* illegal in the USA and the UK despite what copypasters like Misty paste.

There was a law signed by George W Bush but it was struck down as unconstinutional.

In the UK the situation, at this point in time, is that photoreal CGI child pornography is illegal. The UK law specifcally mentions as an example photoshop being used to manipulate images of children.

Germany and Canada are pretty much the two main countries where SL child sexual depections are illegal.

All moot as it's against the rules in SL as per a blog posting.

All that said... let's hope the go and good riddance. SL doesn't need paedophiles.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, there. I knew it was legally clear in the USA on first-amendment grounds, but obviously I was a bit hazier on the situation in the UK.

I see the Sky news Debate is up and suprise suprise, the subject of the debate has changed again to suite their sensational story. Its now a debate on Peadophelia in secondlife (not real world rules), and they now say they invited peadofiles of secondlife to come along.

The residents of Second life were just used as a backdrop for their fake story.

The whole fiasco with sky news, wonderland and this evil Jason Farell is worrying.
