Cinemassively: Philip Rosedale on transparency
Filed under: Video, Events, real-world, Second Life, Cinemassively
Given today's announcement, you may be surprised to hear that his answer was transparency. Considering that there is no blog entry yet on the Official Second Life Blog, I can tell they're already starting off 2008 with a bang! Does this news come as a surprise to you?

I'm not really surprised. Philip is a visionary, and Linden Lab has grown to the size where a more traditional executive is needed. I hope this gives him a bit of a break, and it is good to know he'll still be very involved! Best of luck.

The world can only be transparent as long as it agrees to understand its many different cultures, beliefs, colours and social oddities. If there is any fears of being persecuted for who you are, then transparency is along way off.
If Second Life has shown me anything in the 3 years ive been inworld, its how little the world chooses to understand and how ready it is to profit from the lies and fear it generates.
There is so much emphesis on whos behind the avatar these days. I prefered the days when you did not question whos was behind the avatar, did not care what colour, gender, species, religion, country, age or hight. You became friends becos you developed a common interest in the virtual world regardless of your real world life.
To me being in second life and meeting someone was like being a child playing with another child for the first time, uninhibited by religious beliefs, social status or bigoted opinions from the parents, that when older would have forced them to shun each other.
With transparency we will be able to see who everyone really is and the real world persecutions will flood in and poison the once hopeful utopia.
Anyway, it's just game :)
