Watch the first installment of MMOvie

Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Video, Humor

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here: the first installment of the MMOvie is live. You've probably already seen the fantastic trailer from last summer. In case you haven't, here's the hook: it's a machinima set in World of Warcraft that acts as a pastiche of both online games and popular movies. The original trailer satirizes movies from Titanic through Terminator 2 to Empire Strikes Back and 300.

If you watch the first part of the multi-part machinima masterpiece, though, it's actually a lot deeper than it sounds. I don't want to give away too much, but the creators have taken the basic concept of "satirize movies in an MMO" and built up a pretty interesting story around it. The first installment ends on a major cliffhanger and left me very ready to keep watching. Some of this depth is hinted at in an interview held with the movie's creators back in September. If you're interested, the first installment is embedded after the cut for your viewing pleasure.
