Elections for EVE's player council begin in May

More details have become available as CCP lays out the groundwork for the elections to begin! The call for candidates began yesterday, so if you're thinking about making the jump into politics now is the time to act. Candidate entries will no longer be accepted past April 1st, which gives players about a month to campaign for their cause. Elections will begin on May 5th, run for two weeks, and we should know who the first members of the Council are as of May 21st. For full details CCP has put up a pair of PDFs on the program, one laying out the background and reasons for the creation of the CSM, and the other offering up a summary of the Council's functions.
Stay tuned later today for our interview with CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson, EVE economist Dr. Eyjólfur Guðmundsson, and Community Researcher/Developer Petur Oskarsson all about this unique project!

CCP scares the piss out of me. Reading about the things that have gone down in Eve Online makes me think that a move like this, while a positive step, won't stop CCP from doing pretty much whatever they feel like should things go bad.
Their presentation sounds wonderful, but what exactly does that have to do with one of their own being corrupt and providing his corporation with items or the whitewashing that CCP tried when it was discovered? SOE had player representatives and when one of them got uppity they canned his ass and deleted posts on the subject from the official forum(one exists at this point).
Sorry, but what MMO's need is transparency not councils. If someone is banned, say why and provide proof. If employees are implicated in wrongdoing then have an independent party investigate. If a patch is buggy, own up to it immediately instead of having your community act as tech support for those effected.
How players can be better informed, faster to react, and more professional than those working for the game company is disturbing. It's not just CCP, it's many developers and more bureaucracy probably won't help the situation.
Don't pander to the bottom...provide leadership from the top.

I can't say I've ever played EVE, but I think the idea is brilliant.
