Five MMOs better than World of Warcraft
Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Game mechanics, MMO industry, Opinion
No fooling. Blizzard's World of Warcraft is a great game, a hugely influential game, maybe even the best game ever written by anyone, ever. Throughout history. But now that we've GOT WoW, well, what's next? Age of Conan? Warhammer? Spellborn? Maybe.
World of Warcraft had its roots in many other games, but none of those games stood still. Each of them looked at WoW, appreciated its roots, and said – we can do better. Other games, entirely different ones, said – we can give players something new. Here then, are five MMOs better than WoW – and why. Each takes some aspect of World of Warcraft and blows it away. Some of the games are old, some new, but all are excellent games -- and perhaps you will think so, too.

As I would agree that each of these MMO's do a better job in some aspects than WoW does there is one thing that you forget. WoW has all of these elements in one package.

The idea that LOTRO just copied the WOW interface seems to be very persistent.
In fact, WOW copied its interface from AC2, which was a Turbine game!

I really do not think it is that LOTRO just copied the UI (which they did not...)
It is the fact that LOTRO copied all playstyles from all MMO's to create a boring amalgam..

Big disagreement there. They took the best of all and combined it with a better storyline. Also, you can play instruments with their music system. Can't be that! :p

Wish I could get into LotRO...but we know what happens already. We aren't changing the world. As good as the story is, if you finished the game (thus know the end)....why keep playing?
I want Conan and WAR to be great. Already in the Conan beta and will be joining on launch...that said, I doubt it will beat WoW.
WoW is like the iPod at this point. Sure there are players with better features, but the cultural tide is in it's favor.

LOL, we do indeed know how the story of LOTR... but that doesn't make it any less fun to play the game, or read the books again, or watch the film for the nth time. Come on! That's such a silly thing to say.
We also know how Age of Conan ends up. Conan becomes king of Aquilonia, and at 45 he is betrayed by schemers and necromancy, Aquilonia is invaded by Nemedia, Conan escapes his captives thanks to a hot slave girl, he eventually triumphs over the undead sorceror and everyone else, and returns victorious to his throne. He pledges to make the slave girl, Zenobia, his queen. Eventually, the Hyborean Age will draw to a close just as surely as the Third Age of Middle Earth.
There you go, no need to play AoC now.

Truthfully, i see a lot of controversy on all these games that are being mentioned, i see that all MMO's have peaks and downfalls. No matter on what type of game it is or what story line you see, its the persons opinions about the game that really don't inflicted anything but influence on other gamers of this world to make it worth buying or not worth buying at all. I think that everyone "thinks" these games are better because of some peak in the game play or something that peaks someones interest in the story line. I see nothing but people complaining to one another about what games are better, and turning it into a pissing contest. Yes games will always have that boring part, no matter if its an MMO or a console game, they will have that one point in the game that you will absolutely hate. The widely well-known game "World of Warcraft" is growing with new content all the time, and keeping everything in order trying to do their best to keep the people of WoW happy and to keep them playing till the end of time. When you take a game and add things into it and make it to where there is amazing content, and then have that tragic boring part where it seems like repetition, if you look at it, every game that you will play will have that. EQ1 is at like 20 expansions now? Still over 1 million people play, because they like the content and how the game is played. WoW is coming out with WoTLK and a lot of people are anticipating it and wanting to view more and more content on the new class "Death Knight." I wanted to put a point out there that there is no game that will be better than another. Only your opinion matters to you and who you can manipulated to think the same as you. Thank you.
