Multiple Second Life updates this week

Filed under: Patches, News items, Second Life

Second Life is getting not one, but two distinct sets of updates this week. Through Tuesday and Wednesday there will be rolling restarts to deploy server version 1.21. Also on Wednesday there will be a central database upgrade.

Both sets of updates are supposed to improve performance and reduce the incidence of failures, especially at peak loads.

The rolling restart schedule is for roughly 500 simulators to be updated between 8 and 9PM SLT (US Pacific time) on Tuesday evening, 8 April.

The following morning (Wednesday, 9 April) at 5:30AM - 7AM will see a further 2,000 simulators updated. Hot on the heels of that, at 7AM the central database upgrade will take place, which will affect or prevent logins, teleporting, L$ transactions and profiles.

Finally, at 6PM Wednesday, the rest of the grid will be restarted with the new server code, a process which may last until Midnight or a little after.

All in all, that seems like a pretty tight schedule, and we hope it goes smoothly for the users.
