Saga (MMORTS) Trailer: What WoW should have been
Filed under: Fantasy, Video, New titles, PvP, Trading card games, Saga, MMORTS
The graphics aren't top notch, but the gameplay looks interesting, and I hope others would appreciate the efforts from a smaller independent development studio as I do. There is a free client available, but several features are not usable unless you upgrade to the full version. There is no expiration date on the trial, and if you are concerned about a monthly subscription fee, don't be because there isn't one. The payment model is based on the purchase of booster packs. The booster packs contain cards, and these cards portray units and spells that you then use to build armies and maintain your nation. The end game actually revolves around PvP against other player built nations. You can read a much better detailed account on the missions, PvP, the card system, in this great first look posted on Brandon Reinhart's blog. You can find more information about the game and where to download it on Saga's official site. I'm about to try it out firsthand, and if you've played it please feel free to share your thoughts about Saga below.

Yeah, tested it. Save yourself some time, and don't download and play it. Was rather a dissapointment to be honest. Looks nice gameplay wise, but it really aint nice to play sadly.

Well it wasnt for me either but that was purely the fantasy thing. With a sixth race coming and World conflict being worked on, SAGA, like most MMO's including WoW, will imporve in time. Even more leeway is given in my book to small independants attempts tbh - Eve is a case in point.
We have some scifi MMORTS in the oven with Beyond Protocol, Fragmented Galaxy, Angels Fall first and The Far Reaches of Space. I would ask Christian how long he played? A month would be a tight judgement call imo given server and balance issues in all MMO's, never mind one in a still stumbling genre. Only now is the technology allowing such a massive MMO experince such as is promised in MMORTS.
Also - MMORTS, imo much much more than MMORPG and its PvE, relies on a growing and sizable community to be succesful. Released games will suffer from a dip in activity and balance unless they generate a strong community during beta testing.

Well I tried it and liked it, but I decided to quit after I tried to purchase the full version. I got double charged and never got the full version.

Well, I'm on the trial right now, and I like how it plays. However, I'll need to spend some more time playing before deciding myself.
