Massively video exclusive: Villain epic archetypes
Filed under: Super-hero, Video, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Patches, Previews

Anyone playing the City of... franchise must know that the game's latest free content update, Issue 12 is on the horizon, including epic archetypes for villains. And though here at Massively we can't make issue 12 arrive any faster, we do have the scoop, straight from NCsoft, on the the new Blood Widow and Wolf Spider archetypes.
For the level 50 villains in the audience who can't wait to get started playing the new archetypes (or the heroes wanting to know what they'll be up against), keep reading for a preview of the new archetype abilities. All we can say is it makes us want to start leveling a villain. In fact, while you watch this video, we'll be in-game grinding our way towards infamy.
For a detailed play-by-play of what this video tells us, check out our analysis of the trailer from a villains' perspective.

More goodness than you can shake one of those maces at, and for free. Nice!

Actually going off of that I haven't really played since issue 9. Is leveling still a chore?

Never as much as it used to be Issue 11.5 was alot of QoL stuff and leveling speed was a major factor, the 'brick wall' levels 15-20 and more so 35-40 have now been tweeked and are now much easier to play through.

Great, looks like they just threw a bunch of old powers into a new one, sounds amazingly lame

Beat me to it, Keelan.
It wouldn't be a 'new' Issue if they didn't rehash some previous content. I guess that means Issue 12 is the 'newest' of all since they are rehashing all the powers into other ATs with power proliferation.
Agree.....lame.

Gotta love Doomers.
I12 adds a whole new area, new series of enemies, adds power choices to existing archetypes and, with the VEATs described here, allows villains to play that classic evil doer, the organized black mask.
A staple of comic books is the legion of bad guys and their champions and this creation allows for that 'spearhead of the big, black weapon' feeling.
Colour me impressed, though any praise (I'm sure) will be promptly discarded to the screams of 'Fanboi' or 'Undercover Dev'. As was said, 'people only hear what they wanna'.

Nice. All rehashes of basic crap.
Is COV even played anymore? Thought they abandoned it to make more cheesy COH stuff.
I might go back to playing COV if they put, you know, something NEW in it. This seems like they just tossed COV a bone while they work on the hero game.
On the bright side, more punching bags to people who like to play heroes.
