Linden Lab stops 1.21, tries alternative
Filed under: Bugs, Patches, News items, Second Life
Something is obviously very wrong with the 1.21 Second Life simulator software. For whatever reason it just won't take (maybe it keeps trying to sell itself in the Land Store -- we don't know).
Whatever the reason, Linden Lab is waving off from deploying an update to 1.20, and will instead be deploying an updated version of 1.20. In retrospect, we'd like to apologize for any migraines or confusion that last sentence might have caused.
Whatever problems 1.21 might have, there are definitely some desirable fixes in there. These include the pretty-much ubiquitous "security and performance fixes", fixes to the excess memory usage by openspace/void-simulator physics, and a bunch of other nuisance physics glitches.
Those fixes are coming to 1.20. Let's call it 1.20.1 for the moment (because saying 1.20-and-a-half frankly sounds a little lame). Update: Apparently 1.20.1 is what Linden Lab have decided to call it too now, so we feel we're on firmer ground.
1.20.1, just rolled out to 200 hundred sims tonight (Thursday). Assuming that dire things do not happen (come on, what are the odds?) half the grid will get the new version on Friday morning, and the rest of the grid on Saturday morning.
That seems quite an aggressive and interesting schedule. We're curious as to how Saturday night and Sunday will perform.
1.21 is slated for next week. Until they get that going, no Land Store. As you can imagine, there's probably any amount of questions, shouting and finger-pointing going on internally about that.
As much as you or we might miss the Land Store, Linden Lab misses it even more.

I wonder if this glitch... or the delay of the new land store is the cause of my bill not being charged/paid this month for my SIM.
Usually they take it out of my credit on the 15th of every month. But not this month. I don't mind dealing with Concierge, but I cerrtainly don't want to have to deal with billing :\
Have you heard of anyone else not being charged their monthly estate fee (tier) this month?
