Average Conanite will reach level 80 in 250 hours

Age of Conan game director Gaute Godager said at the launch event in Norway that reaching level 80 will take "on average 250 hours of gameplay," according to videogamer.com.
The first few levels will come lightning fast, but the bulk of them up to 60 will be comprised of between two and three hours of gameplay. After that, it will get a bit slower, thanks to some input from beta testers. By our math, that leaves five hours per level including and after 60, but who knows how that will be distributed.
Whether this ends up being faster than competing games like World of Warcraft and The Lord of the Rings Online by the end probably depends on your play-style. He said "on average," so does that mean the hardcore achievers will reach the top in 90 hours and the casuals will mosey on up there within 500 hours? There's been a lot of chit chat and speculation in the Massively office about this news. We suppose we'll get a good sense of it by midway through the summer.

Also bear in mind that game companies often exaggerate how long their products will last to help justify the product's cost. It also doesn't hurt that, as a game that charges a monthly fee, throwing this kind of number around might give investors that a 5 hour/week gamer would be paying to play the game for an entire year.
Also, with the heavier PVP focus, one wonders what portion of that time is presumed to be spent ganking and fighting off gank attempts.

except this is never the case with mmo's. There is no reason to inflate the numbers, especially when backed up by the community. People don't tend to say OOO GOODY! 1000 hours to cap, most want to get there is as little time as possible.

I do. Getting to cap as quickly as possible seems counter-productive, given how many people complain about running out of content. I'd rather see people encouraged to take their time than rush to the top because "that's where the real gameplay starts."

250 hours seems pretty normal for an MMO. Leveling up in WoW is pretty easy, and most people agree that getting to 60 used to take about 10 days played.
I doubt this number factors in PvP, given Conan has a separate set of levels that you gain by participating in PvP.
