Lost Colony discovered, late for launch
Filed under: At a glance, Sci-fi, MMO industry, New titles, MMOFPS
Sometimes things come to you through unusual circumstances. An article popped into our inbox today along with others, discussing how indie-developed MMOFPS Lost Colony was in talks with an unnamed publisher to sell copies through retail chains like Wal-Mart and Target. However, the referring article was dated October 14, 2007. How did it get into our email as the latest news? The article goes on to say that the LC team was shooting (no pun intended) for a March 2008 release. Having found this under-the-radar MMO, we looked at their website, which makes no mention of a release date. Apparently they were accepting pre-orders right up until January 15th of this year. It's now May, and there's nothing in the news about this title, though apparently there's a beta in progress. The forums contain a post entitled "March Update", in which the author writes "Our company and our fans have high expectations. Quality assurance needs time, and we are not in a hurry to rush something out the door. When its ready, it's ready."
A slipping release date needn't necessarily be a pronouncement of doom, as we all know, but taking care of PR is important to mitigate both public awareness and publisher anxiety. Hearing the term 'lost colony' immediately brings to mind the Roanoke Colony project of the 16th century. Will this Lost Colony also disappear, or should we be expecting an announcement shortly?

You should do some quick searchs at places that have already laughed these guys out and removed them from their line up. The guys have already in the private forums pulled every excuse, from its DX10s fault they cant publish, to bugs, to "we dont want to release anything till its ready". The latest one is the the current engine is too buggy, they are to go to BREW, a cheaper 400 dollar option with a 80% return on profits. Its a joke, the entire operation. No screenshots since august of last year, despite preorders (which after some legal issues they cut off)

Does this sound like a responsible bunch of guys? Keep in mind they claim to have a huge staff, and are a sister company of Gameshout (same server as well, but recently was switched according to SoS, probably to hide from folks that were saying gameshout was thesame company) Andy Hodges is the guy thats listed as the executive producer for both companies as well, What a joke.

Just so everyone knows, this guy "ed0001" is laughable at best. He's been on every board that's talked about Lost Colony and has tried to force his opinions and insults on others. Also, he fakes usernames so that when he points to a URL, it appears as if other people are agreeing with him (when it's really him). He also doesn't have all his facts right (most liars don't) as he said the game was going to BREW. That's half truth -- they are offering BREW for mobile phones while replacing their primary PC game engine with another. If you look at some of those URLs, you can tell it's all him doing this trashtalk. You can read right through the grammar and sentences. Oh, his motive? Well, he's trying to get his own PC game going which has driven away most of his freebie developers and has made the rest of what's left of his userbase laughing. Lost Colony is, and will be a great game. They just ran some Vista 64-bit tests last week with their members and it's proving itself. Most games have delays, I don't mind waiting for Lost Colony. They have a great staff, no matter what this "ed0001" says.

Enoch, oh, I dont know what your talking about.. a freebie developer, or my own PC Game. And as for a 64 bit test. There has never been one available for the members. How do I know, I have several proxy memberships, its worth it to see the dumb stuff thats posted by the "staff" or should i say SoS who is the only one other then the new one Darcum(welcome btw). I know everything that goes on in the private areas( or i wouldnt know about BREW). As for a 64 bit test, prove it. Prove all the websites that we are wrong. And its not me, i guess i own MassiveFPS, or I posted all those comments on MMORPG, face the fact. And as soon as you want great staff, lets see Unreal, Soulrift, Roland, Pointman, and all the other "staff" have said the exact same thing, and they have all been me..

Blaming DX10 for LCs failure to release is a joke. Your claiming to be a High quality game, using a indie engine. With nothing to back it up. Even the website is a year out of date, check out the other clickies from the front page.
Any person that tries to release a false ad on its own website becuase none of the other Legitimate sites will host them. That march update is from Newsoxy, which is on the Redplanet servers from www.godaddy.com. I back up anything i saw with facts. Want to shut me up. Show me a release date (and meet it) and some screenshots not from the stone age. And if Massive wants a host of screenshots and HTMLs of now gone or private htmls to prove my point. Ill gladly get them to them as proof. LC has nothing to back up its word other then broken promises, a preorder program before a alpha was finished (who calls for a preorder in themiddle of the alpha build, they didnt even have a gui decided this time last year) I know i have all the releases up to .98 and before you go there about new tests and releases. BS. Now you want to see a good game, Penny Arcade by Garage games.
Thats a good game made with the engine that LC is?was?Might be using ( i never know anymore) Lets see we have a company that before even releasing a full beta have announced they have a MAC, PC, Xbox 360, and now BREW( by your own admission "they are offering BREW for mobile phones while replacing their primary PC game engine with another". Plus a Vista 64 version, do i need to go on here?
