BSG fans may not be perfect, but it sure is better to target them than someone watching Home Improvement. Even though what you say is mostly true, SciFi people are attracted to SciFi games and CCP chose one of the best places to advertise.

Now, I'm not looking to get into an arguement here, as EVE obviously is not the game for you, but as a 4-year player of EVE Online I think you're actually woefully naive in several of your statements.

A single player in EVE can actually accomplish MUCH more than the vast majority of other MMOs due to the huge political opportunities in game. Since everything takes place on a single massive server containing all of the game's players, a player with political motivation can lead alliances to war, changing everything in the game from economics to combat, whereas in other MMOs I've played, the pinnacle of achievement is a high position on a PVP ranking board somewhere.

As for storyline, it's woefully ignorant to say that EVE doesn't have a deep storyline. Go to www.eve-online.com and head to the backstory section. They go read the hundreds of chronicles and short stories or even the novel that's currently in stores right now. You could literally spend days reading through EVE's deep stories written by players and CCP's paid writing staff.

BSG has a lot of fans in EVE; myself is one of them. Are BSG and EVE the same thing? No. They do share many similarities within the Sci-Fi genre and as stated above, a BSG fan is more likely to be drawn to the solid Sci-Fi gameplay that drives EVE than someone watching, say, NASCAR racing.

EVE combat can be very fast paced, or slower and strategic, depending on how a character plays. Get into an Interceptor dogfight and tell me that your heart isn't racing as you try to tear another pilot apart at 5 km/s. If that doesn't excite you, perhaps watching your battleship get rocked by massive explosions as torpedoes slam into your hull as you struggle to get your heavy cannons to bear.

And for those BSG fans who find that EVE truly isn't for them (the game does require a good deal of patience, and is one of the most complex MMO's in existence), I would definitely recommend downloading one of my other all-time favorite games, Freespace 2. Now a free game (developer turned over all the source code a few years ago), a project named Freespace Open has allowed mod developers to make some absolutely incredible twitch experiences.
