The Daily Grind: Going back to EverCrack?
Filed under: Fantasy, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Events, real-world, Events, in-game, The Daily Grind, Trading card games

For those of you who haven't heard, Sony Online Entertainment has handed out 60 day subscriptions to all former EverQuest and EverQuest II subscribers -- even trial accounts! The whole initiative is part of this summer's Living Legacy marketing campaign, which will be including events, items, Legends of Norrath cards, experience weekends, and much much more! This is all leading up to the new expansion pack that will be released for EverQuest II later on this year.
So, this obviously begs the question, are you going to go back to your "EverCrack"? Is this aggressive marketing campaign enough to pull your hands away from the recently released Age of Conan, World of Warcraft, or other favorite MMO? With all of these incentives being offered, and so much to do inside of EverQuest each week this summer until August, will you find a need to go back to your old habits?

I beat the rush and returned to EQ1 a couple of months ago, just in time to miss all the sweet goodies :(

Exactly the same, and I am quite pissed off about that. I returned during that last double xp weekend in april. Total BS to give this stuff to non-paying quitters and not their paying customers.

Downloading Classic EQ now....will be fun to go back and see how my MMO career started and where the game is now.
I didn't realize it was for trial accounts too....might be time to go further in EQ2 also...

I've just logged into my station account and found my trail account from Jan 2002 has been activated.
I might actually have a play around, see what its like, I can't really remember it as it was so long ago, the first MMO I tried and I didn't go back to them for a couple of years.

I've not played Everquest (Original Recipe) in over four years and I feel no need to go back now.
And twice have I played EQII on a trial basis, but neither the limited Trial of the Isle (What do you mean I can't go to Qeynos?) or Play The Fae (A fairy's life for me? No.) impressed me.
But I saw yesterday that Sony has not only reactivated my EQ account, but those EQII trials were enough to qualify. So I downloaded the Launcher last night, started patching around 6pm and ...
It was still patching this morning as I left for work.

This came at a perfect time. WoW is starting to bore me (though I am sure WoTLK will bring me back), I am not interested in AoC... and Mythos is not as fun as it was.
So I loaded up EQ1 and logged in for the first time since 2004... and had no clue what to do with my 69 beastlord. I rolled a new character and went through the whole tutorial just to learn the ropes again lol... game has changed alot!
EQ2 is still patching as I type this, and I will admit that getting the whole Kunark expansion for free and being able to play a Sarnak is intriguing.

I rolled a Sarnak Shadowknight (original, I know) last night and played til I hit 11. Fun times indeed.

I'm also heading back to EQ2, I can still vaguely remember where I last logged out, o the memories.

For those of you who are taking this opportunity up, please visit the official forums and ask questions as they arise. Both games have changed over the years, and asking questions is never a bad thing!

My friends don't have ROk and started playing again last month. Does this free digital copy of ROK apply to them too or are they SOL because they came back too soon? If so that sucks.

I cannot get away from EQ2! Every MMO I have tried leaves something to be desired when compared to the overall experience of EQ2. I guess it is because of the continuous involvment of the players with the developers into making the game challanging as well as player friendly.
Hopefully we will have many players revisit the game, enjoy it, and stay.
Disclaimer... I am still trying Conan, but not that impressed yet.

Twelve hours later ... still patching.
With six hours to go, according to the Launcher.
Not a good look, SOE.

Seriously? Buy a better connection. I don't know what you are really thinking here, dling 20+gigs along with everyone else that was just reactivated. How long did you think it would take?

Just a bit of info, from an SoE Fan Boy, see my posts on their website if you don't believe me. Don't use the standard patcher it stinks. It takes forever to download anything and it almost always hangs. Instead use the new unified BETA patcher they are working on, even in beta it is far superior to the old patcher. I was able to download Planetside, Vanguard, MxO, and EQlive simultaneously in about 3hours, that would have taken like 48+ with the old patcher. You can get it from the main SoE site http://www.station.sony.com/. Its on the right hand side under the game finder search.

You're not just patching, you're downloading the expansions. Frigging deal or go buy the discs. You are getting it FOR FREE. STFU.

I just downloaded the game again. Its been a long 2 years. I have very fond memories but I don't know how to access DoF, KoS, or the other expansions I never got when I was a regular. Game seems rather empty player wise but the achievements seem kool.
