Make your own MMO with MMORPG Tycoon

The TIGSource Procedural Generation Competition is nearing it's finish, and one of the more polished entries takes a fascinating look at MMOs. Titled MMORPG Tycoon, it gives you an MMORPG and demands that you fix it to please the player base. And that's easier said than done.

You have the ability to control most aspects of the game world, from where towns are placed, to how high which stats are per class, to where players respawn, to which levels can use which zones. You can also name your MMORPG anything you like as well, meaning that if you want to have your game be called "World of Warhammer EVE Rasa", you can do so!

The best part of the game, though, are how you track the player satisfaction. There's a counter that keeps track of all the forum posts, both positive and negative, and if you have a higher positive than negative count then you are winning. The other, more satisfying, way to check how happy the players are is to zoom in all the way and inspect the players. It will tell you their name, the quest they are on, what they are doing, stats, class, and everything else about them, down to the player satisfaction. It's a wonderful touch that lends the game some extra charm.

If this sounds like your thing, you can download and play the game by visiting the TIGSource forums. It's available for both Windows and Mac and clocks in at about 8 mb. So go on. Fuel your lust for making an MMORPG. It's free!
