Come frag Massively in PlanetSide!
Filed under: PlanetSide, Events, in-game, MMOFPS, Massively Hands-on

In collaboration with Sony Online Entertainment a bunch of Massively staffers are going to hop into PlanetSide as a fourth army - we're going to be the bad guys. It's your job, then, as the loyal recruits of the New Conglomerate, the Terran Republic, or the Vanu Sovereignty to put us in our place. You can participate for free, even, and get a taste of what the gameplay in PS is like on an epic scale. Join us this Saturday at 6pm EST on the US server Gemini! For full details, read below the cut to find out how to grab the client and join in.
When:
We're going to play at 6pm EST on Saturday the 14th of June. In order to get locked and loaded in time for the event we suggest everybody log in around 5:30pm EST. Once the Massively team is in-game we'll update Massively.com with details of where we are. In-game elements should also take you right into the thick of it via the 'Instant Action' button.
How:
All you need to do in order to get in-game is download the SOE Station launcher: http://launcher.station.sony
If you don't have a Station account, you'll need to set one up (freebie). You can do this after downloading the Station Launcher by running it and clicking on the "Create a Free Station Account" button. After setting up the new station account you'll be able to log into the Station Launcher. After you log in with your new or old account, you'll have the option to access the free trial by clicking on the "PlanetSide" button which should read "Activate or Try Game". Download the game, jump in, and make a character.
PlanetSide is an oldie but goodie, right? Come join us in-game for the first Massively get together since the site launched. And good luck!

Added bonus for those who still actively play PlanetSide: I really suck at FPS games, so hey, FREE XP! :D
(Seriously, there is no amount of buffing that could counter my sheer suckiness at FPSes. hehehe)

Excellent! It's nice to see Planetside getting some love. If you're Black Ops, it's going to be interesting. Either way, I'll be huntin' y'all down.
On the off chance that I manage to kill someone, I'll certainly post about it here. Look for Klinger or HEPierce, and pretty lil' picture of a Scatmax. ;)

I haven't logged into my Planetside account since 2003. But I'm there! I hope I can get free time using my old account.
You know, it wouldn't take much to get me back into Planetside for a few months. They should promote it more heavily. I have nothing but good memories of Planetside.

I'll hop in. I don't know who I'll play as, but I'll be there.
Keep your eye out for 9Ball or Ginseng.

Hmm, introducing new players to Planetside through a Blackops event is yet another retarded Sony move. Yeah, log on with a 200 health new account (with almost no cert points) to fight against the 4th empire that has all weapons and 1200 health. Is there even a single person employed by SOE that doesn't have their head up their ass? I guess it saves on oxygen use...

Everyone keeps complaining about us being Black Ops, and introducing new players through a Black Ops event. Really... there's alot of things to keep in mind here.
A. It's us.
B. You can gang up on Black Ops pretty easily.
C. We're not unstoppable.
D. It's us.
Obviously we're going to run around and shoot everyone without any discretion in what faction the player is in. And it's also obvious that you get enhanced bonuses for killing us.
If these Black Ops events happened everyday, and were always piloted by other PlanetSide players, then I could begin to understand a bit more of the griping. There could be favoritism and what not.
Blacks Ops can't and should not be taken on 1 v 1. That's their point. They're like elite bosses, worthy of being raided on. They're also designed to move into areas where they are going to be fired upon by all players -- hence the extra health.
Maybe I'll write a column on this once I get behind the wheel of these guys. We'll see. But, as it stands right now, I really don't see the problem.

As a currently subbed Planetside vet (from launch) I am pretty sure I'll be able to take you guys down, Black Ops or no. I'll be there representing the Vanu, MMOCrunch-style!

Considering most of our team is completely new to PlanetSide, I suspect there won't be nearly as many problems as folks are anticipating.
Hell, I suck at FPS games. This is a given, so "Apseth" will be an easy kill for anyone going after me. Hehehe.

Fighting Black Ops teaches you very early on the key lesson of Planetside: A unit is good, a squad is better. Anyone going 1 vs 1 on Black Ops will (probably) die.
Anyone that can work as a team against Black Ops will very likely take them out. When I was running Black Ops last event, my greatest joy was finding TRx folks who would go 1 vs 1 with me, and then fall down dead. When I saw 2-3 of their friends show up, I'd go pick myself another target of opportunity. ;)

Here we go, only five years late for a little advertisement! It's still shocking just how few FPS players know of this game.
Come on SOE! You can't get more players if you don't ADVERTISE!:)
