Reallusion, the company that creates the animated facial expression software,
CrazyTalk, embraced
Second Life machinima quite some time ago. First, they appeared at real life festivals, then they developed their own plot of land in the virtual world, and now they've created
a page on their website that features the works of
SL machinimators, as well as a tutorial. In the
instructional video, they explain how to use their software to lipsync pictures of avatars, as well as give some tips and tricks.
[Thanks, John!]
If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

This isn't the same company that was claiming a patent on all text inspired avatar emoting, is it?

Hi, this is John from Reallusion. No, we have not made any patent claims on text inspired avatar emoting. That must be someone else. However, everything you experience inside CrazyTalk is 100% proprietary to Reallusion. Not only that, but filmmakers that use CrazyTalk or iClone have full commercial license to distribute, showcase and sell their works!

... now all that's missing is to get Linden Lab partner with Reallusion to implement Crazy Talk in SL :)
Oh, I'm not complaining about the recent patch that allowed (limited) lipsyncing in SL, which is *great* for working with moving images :) instead of merely static ones. But, granted, it's a simple patch, and lightyears away from what Crazy Talk can do.
Ah... and a Mac version would be nice too (seriously, are there still people around using Windows Movie Maker??).

I have been using CrazyTalk and several other in and out of world software to create my monthly video-magazine, ScarlettCast, which covers fashion and lifetyle in SL. So far I have been pleased with the results.
You can have a look at this month's installment all over the web and via iTunes. Here is on elink for you to watch
