The Daily Grind: What's your favorite loot system?
Filed under: Culture, Raiding, Endgame, Opinion, The Daily Grind
That said, as we know we have lots and lots of people with quite a bit of MMOG experience out there, we thought we'd ask you what loot systems you prefer for raiding? Do you still think the oldest is best, and like to run with DKP (Dragon Kill Points), or are you all about the roll and distribute. Perhaps you prefer one of the other systems like Suicide Kings, which goes down a list that moves based on who attends and doesn't loot (thus heading for the top) versus those who attend and loot (who land at the bottom). We're curious what you think is best for keeping raid looting "fair."

I like the need before greed system best. If a person helps with a raid or an instance they deserve to have an equal shot at the loot like everyone else.
DKP complicates things and has more problems than it's worth. Players spending all their DKP on an item that would be much better in another classes hands and all other sort of issues really don't make it seem fair.
The time I spent raiding was spent using a Need/Greed system, and then later on we added a rank system to it. Esentially all that was was that higher ranked people have first dibs at loot in the newest instance. I.E when we were in hyjal all hyjal loot went to those who were higher rank first if they needed it, then down the ranks. This rule didn't apply to any of the other raids (SSC/TK/ZA/ect) so it worked out very well.

Pure lottery. If someone gets something they don't need or something they don't want, keep it for trade or sell to buy what they do need or want. Simple enough, just puts another step in the gear getting process. Need before greed is too subjective in my opinion, and the elitists first version of looting that Nadril mentioned is awful.

Suicide Kings works best for me. If you raid the most, you should get the most loot. However, this is based on Need before Greed. If a badass sword drops, and everyone already has it except for the noob, let the noob have it. It will increase the raids efficiency in the long run. Dont let the vet raiders get greedy.

Suicide kings is the absolute easiest and most fair of the systems (trust me, I have had a whole season of grays anatomy worth of drama coming to this conclusion!). DKP is fine but it is really dependent on the person running the list being honest and not "fudging" the number in favor (or to screw with) someone in the guild. This happens ALLOT actually, even in really tight family type guilds. SK is better because everyone is always aware of where everyone else is on the list, and if someone moves magically it's readily appearant to everyone else.
