SOE announces online trading card game for Galaxies anniversary
Filed under: Launches, News items, Star Wars Galaxies, Trading card games
In celebration of five years of Star Wars Galaxies, SOE and LucasArts have put out a press release announcing the production of Champions of the Force, a trading card game that will be available only to current Galaxies subscribers. The trading card game will only be available online, and will allow players to play decks against one another or even single-player in a story-based solo game. Interestingly, the game will sport "loot" cards which will be redeemable for virtual items within Galaxies proper.Subscribers will get a bountiful five booster packs a month just for paying their subscription fees, but starter decks and booster packs will be available for purchase from the Station store as well. They're aiming for a release late this summer, so make sure to check out the official site for more details if it sounds like it's up your alley. Also make sure to look at their community site to find the other goodies they've got planned for the five year anniversary.

OK, angry now.
So this is what they had in mind to bring people back to the game? Dear SOE, guess what, you do this on a pre-CU server, you'll get your people back, don't nickle and dime us with a reskined version of the EQ and EQ2 game.
To have such a low opinion of your customers expectations is shameful. Despite your recent living legacy promotion, I will not be resubbing to your games after putting out this type of tripe.
So Star Wars as Sabacc as a part of the lore, and this was completely overlooked as a game, just so you can sell 'virtual' game cards to kiddies who shouldn't buy them? You can go to Ebay and buy these cards for a much lesser sum now, and there are two iterations that I know of a star wars card game
I would play this, but given the game's history, in 18 months, all my cards will change or be taken away, the rules will change and you'll be calling it the 'New Card Experience'
Mr Smedley, your customers are not idiots, please don't treat Star Wars fans with such disregard and make amends for the changes made that destroyed your community, rather than to continue to skirt the issue.

A pre-cu server wouldn't bring people back. In the days since SWG launched, we've gotten WoW and LotRO. LotRO is the game for SWG fans. It has rich lore, great community, great roleplay, player housing, and overall a similar feel to what SWG had in its heyday, except better.
But basically it's too late. People have moved on to other games, they won't go back just because of a pre-CU/pre-NGE(I liked the CU) server.

LOTRO is a good game, it's no SWG buddy.

Your right, it is no SWG ... it is better, SWG post-NGE is a withering pile of lobotomy trash.
I loved it pre-NGE and CU ... hell I would even play the CU if it was being worked on still ... but it doesnt fit into SOE's 8 man cross developing dev teams, yet charging premium prices for half the game it was.

Only an hour? I asked about a Star Wars CCG a la Legends of Norrath on June 16. I got what I wanted, so I'm not bitching.

See? They DO listen to their customers. Sometimes that sucks though. For example, the Meatlump theme park! Wisdom of the crowd at work there...
