It's funny. The EQ2 players mock WoW players by saying WoW is too easy to play, runs on too many computers, and has unpunishing PvP.

That's like insulting food for tasting too good, being too cheap and being delivered too quickly.

Gee, that's really funny, huh? Sad thing is that I'm one of those people who are bumming around in EQ2 while waiting for WotLK, specifically because of the Living Legacy promotion. I can see three or four questions on that list that would benefit from a real answer instead of snark.

As both a WoW and an EQ2 player, I'm neither nodding my head in agreement nor getting frustrated and ready to flame this post. I'm just wondering why on earth you found this worthy of a link, out of all the millions of things posted on the internets every day?

You could write an excellent "10 questions from WoW players new to EQ2" (with answers). But this isn't it.

My background: I've never played EQ or EQ2 myself. Beta-tested AC and played a bit of AC2 back in the day, Lineage II for a spell, long-time Planetside fan, and I've been a MUDder my whole life. I'm a WoW player since release.

Personally, I don't find this funny at all, but I have no context to put it in (no EQ experience). However, of the questions you listed, I think several deserve legit answers rather than sneers and snickers (remember, never played EQ or EQ2 here, considered it to break the tedium between now and WotLK).

10. Where's the auction? How do you people trade with each other?

What, is there no auction/market system in EQ? I remember player shops in SMAUG-based MUDs 10 years ago, and Lineage II had a robust player-driven (if hyper-inflated) player-driven trading economy.

9. My mods aren't working. Can somebody help me get them to work in this game?

Does the game not have an API that allows modification? Am I stuck with the default interface/features? I know that's a bit spoiled of me to expect that now, but let's be honest - how many mods did Blizzard made obsolete by implementing them directly into the game?

8. Where's the Battlegrounds? I tried a PvP server but people kept killing me.

I didn't know EQ2 had free-for-all PK. I loved AC and Lineage II for the open PK policies, and open PK MUDs were a favorite of mine back in the day. Is there no structured PVP environment like an Arena or Battleground? Again, drawing on Lineage here, but the siege system they had was similar to BGs in WoW ... too much to expect it of EQ2?

5. I'm new to EQ2 from WoW. I've been playing for two days now and leveled to 50. Is there a faster way to level?

Without context, I missed this one. Does EQ2 have a long leveling curve, or is it as short as WoW's? What's the max level? I remember one MUD I played for around 3 years had 240 levels, 60 in each of your 4 classes. I made it to around 160 or so before I left the game.

4. How come this game runs really slow on my computer? It ran fine in WoW. I have great computer with a P4 processor and 512 megs of RAM.

Is that really a problem? Do lots of WoW players really run low-spec machines? I would have believed that, like so much of the rest of the gaming community, WoW players would tend to prefer higher-quality graphics and smoother frame-rates ... or was this just a dig at WoW's low-poly ultra-stylized graphics?

3. I paid somebody to power level my character for me and now I can't access my account. What's up with that?

I didn't realize item/gold/account-selling and paid power-leveling wasn't a problem for EQ. I though every game had those problems, since most of the big gold selling companies got their start in classic EQ. Nice to know EQ2 is free of that kind of trouble.

2. I'm still waiting for the game to download. What classes are most needed for end game raiding?

Again, not sure if this is funny because there is no such thing as "raiding," or there is no requirement for strategy/range of classes (does everything = tank & spank, or every class = DPS), or because there is no end game ... or is it funny because they're downloading the game ... anyone want to explain?

I ask these questions legitimately. Not being a concern troll, just wondering why they're funny, and what the real answers are. Not being part of the EQ crowd doesn't mean I wouldn't consider it. Hell, some of these questions, answered the right way, could actually potentially draw me into EQ (as it stands, I think I'm going to re-up for a few months of Lineage II until WotLK hits).

Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog; few people are interested and the frog dies of it. Despite this, I'll answer your questions anyway.

10.: The equivalent to the WOW auction house is called the broker. This difference in nomenclature still manages to confuse a lot of new players.
9.: EQ2 has a modifiable UI (see EQ2Interface.com), but I'm guessing this is a joke about new players downloading WOW mods and trying to use them in EQ2.
8.: There's no equivalent to Battlegrounds in EQ2, and the PVP servers are faction vs. faction (except for exiles, who can kill anyone and be killed by anyone).
5.: The leveling curve in EQ2 is a fair bit steeper than WOW's, so someone that can reach level 50 in two days and thinks it's slow has unrealistic expectations.
4.: The EQ2 client is unfortunately not that hot performance-wise compared to WOW, so generally at equivalent graphics settings EQ2 will run a little slower. (It was a lot worse a few years ago, but it's getting better.)
2.: There's a lot of varied group and raid content in EQ2 (including raid content for people below max level, something WOW pretty much ignores). However, consider the hubris required to presume that you'll be guaranteed a raid slot the moment you log in for the first time just because you chose a class that's good for raids.

I went to EQ2 from WoW when I got bored. You would be amazed at how many long time EQ players refuse to try WoW. Or they did try it, but didnt play past level 10, saying it was too cartoony. After playing EQ2 for 4 months....and of those 4 months I had 38 day of played time (GASP), I like WoW a bit better, but EQ2 isnt a bad game. We all get use to a certain way things are in a game after we play a long time...so you need a bit of time to adjust. I would suggest anyone that is bored to try one or the other and give it a freaking chance! Level 10 is not a chance...level 60 - 70 is. Biggest thing I didnt like in EQ2 but like alot more in WoW, was the combat system and mob AI (15 buttons used in a row for fighting?!? and they all do about the same thing). Biggest thing I dont like in WoW I like in EQ2...the crafting system and wanting to use what you make....and the house and decorations!

I played a Bruiser as my main - talk about a dream Rogue! DPS, Healing, and you can Tank! Woot!

Lots of those questions on the EvE forums too. And boy, talk about Flame-Bait. Wow players are trashed every chance they get for trying to make EvE more wow-like. And talk about a learning curve, Ive been playing for 2+ years and still dont know half of the stuff in EvE.
