Again with the negative hauteur more than the constructive commentary. Please. The game we all knew and loved is 'dead', but it's growing. Let it evolve.

I am all for an Evolution of Star Wars. But start new, use modern technologies. Don't try and pass of Everquest content design as Star Wars.

I played; I gave NGE, and their new "Not NGE Anymore" versions a chance.

SOE has treated the player base horridly and they have destroyed an IP that has millions of followers that are begging for a good game.

I can't help but notice that they didn't do to Everquest what they did to Star Wars... Why... because they knew it was crap.

As for the hauteur comment, my response was hardly arrogant. It was a comment that if you have read the various “articles” about SWG they have been more advertisement than “article”, with one exception, the individual that wrote about a return to the game and the experience that they have had.

I think the arrogance is in the sentiment. Too many comments about this game on countless internet forums from Amazon to blogs on ewok love come from nothing but a desire to continue a legacy of reprimands for those responsible for the horribly misjudged NGE. Yes, they screwed up. As Angel XIII says here, there are people playing and there are people returning (largely thanks to the excellent decisions and level of consultation the current Dev team are employing) - people are still invested and care - the arrogance is in dismissing them. It's in dismissing this game for no other reason than feeling assured that if you kick it to remind it of past beatings, dozens of other naysayers will agree, laugh and slap you on the back for it.

Apologies if I made it personal, but you're voicing something I'm tired of because it helps no one. I'll say thanks for the the more thoughtful clarification in your next post - some of which I agree with (the SWG articles here have been a bit copy and paste at times. But say that, don't cry "SWG IS DEAD!" - it's a little less constructive). You're first post I responded in light of the logic that punishing the individuals captaining the ship will target the bigger mistake they represent. Apologies for targeting you. Today, you represent something I'm impatient with.

To rectify my knee-jerk slap, I'd rather come to an agreement and move forward:

I hated the NGE. I left. It was a catastrophically bad move that went a way towards making a potentially epic universe into a formulaic and childish point-and-click for lab rats looking to get Star Wars flavoured pellets. It stunk. But it's making great steps to improve the mistake, and has learnt - if nothing else - to listen to it's community.

I now hate SWG bashing, and desires to say it's dead to teach somebody a lesson. It's getting real old.

SOE have been b**chslapped and beaten and heard Aretha singing R-E-S-P-E-C-T as the lay in the dirt. No need to leave them to die in the dust. Those responsible for this games continued development are making amends. Hopefully the devs and those who care about this game are NEVER again told what's best by marketing twats.

As a returning player, I agree that too many decisions are almost carbon tracings of ideas that work for EQ2. This trading card game itself smells like left-overs. But even left-overs can taste great (sometimes better than the first serve). I also recognize the talent that's gone into creating them (if only the art). I can see what they'll add to the game. I'm not going to dismiss it as a bad idea just because it's SOE, or SWG, or because I feel bitter about the NGE and want someone to acknowledge that the bubblegum tasted bad, not just try and solve it by including trading cards.

Resources are limited - and channeled (including 'modern technologies') - in something as huge as a corporation like SOE. I say according to what's now available to them, those responsible for fighting the good fight for SWG and this card game, on the ground, in the trenches, are doing their absolute best and deserve some positive (glowing) recognition. It'd have to be rough when even their past and current allies have fired shots at them.

And it's certainly doing better than The Matrix Online. :P
