Buddy Keys finally implemented in Age of Conan

Age of Conan Senior Community Manager Tarib tells us that 'Everybody who has purchased a Collector's Edition can now invite up to five friends, who can try the game for seven days without purchasing a retail box.' Buddies have the option of borrowing a set of disks to install the game with, or downloading the game directly, which won't come free - it'll cost them $2.99/€2.99. This option does, however, add 3 additional days of play time 'to cover the download time'.

Completely agreed here.
While I've liked what little time I've spent with AoC (currently focusing more on leveling my main in that little Blizzard game); I've been rubbed rather raw by Funcom's business strategy throughout it all.
From the Fileplanet and Gamespot beta debacles (the latter of which being more infuriating if for nothing other than the ridiculous download manager situation), to the whole PCGamer item deal, none of it has left the best impression on me.
Here, however, I can only laugh. Having to pay for something where its merit and existence is based upon its 'free-ness' is so completely counter-productive I just have to wonder what was flying through Funcom's minds when they made the decision.
Sure, I understand that bandwidth isn't cheap, and that there could be a massive server strain if just enough people get in through the program (unlikely as it may be); but in trying to get new subscribers? Well, I think we all know what happens when companies seem to try to nickle-and-dime you from the start.
WoW's worked because it was free (the included disc didn't hurt either), and I can't see any other system working if one has to be charged for it.
I suppose that there will be some who loan their discs out, sure, but I really can't see that happening too often, especially if one has 4 friends that they want to start playing with at the same time...

Funcom should be giving these thing away for free since a TON of their customers cancelled their accounts (like me) Paying for a trial is just like joining a porn site or something... Funcom screwed up here making people pay for a "FREE" demo... What a joke... Funcom is a total idiotic company...

When I bought my CE edition, it said this on the description:
"Five Free Guest Passes -- Online games are all about having fun with your friends, and only in the Collectors Edition will you get five
special guest passes to Hyboria. With the guest pass you can invite five selected friends, allowing them to play together with you, at no cost, for a limited time period."
Funcom, you are a joke company... This is another ploy to try and make money since you screwed up your game already... $3 for a demo is stupid, funcom... you fail as a company... Pathetic...

I am well aware of the... shall we say, "mixed" reviews the game has been receiving. Nonetheless, throw me in with the lot itching to try the game without buying it first. If anyone has a spare key, I'd appreciate having one greatly. Thanks!

Too bad I already canceled.
I think they held off because they knew if people could try it for free, they wouldn't buy it.
But not giving them a way to play for free, it just meant a lot more bought the game to try it, before canceling.
