Mythic is putting a cap on, not only server size but also realm (Order / Destruction) size.

Although Mythic has a cap on population to help level them out, in the Beta there seemed to be a clear preference towards Destruction.

I don't want to say it was huge, but there was a good 10-20% weight on the destruction side in population.

It will be really interesting to see what the release is like. I Server cap or not, I have a feeling that a lot of people will rush destruction. Partly destruction is marketed more, seems to have more reviews in the press, and the press also seems to have a bias towards destruction.

If this happens, then it is likely to typical benefits. Destruction will gain lots of people to fill public quests, which is nice. There will be tons of open parties and even a 10% higher population can turn the tide in RvR battles.

Order, however, will benefit from shorter queues to the scenarios and will have the opportunity to take towers and keeps back that are constantly under siege. Order player could end up with more renown due to the fact that opponents are easier to find.


I sometimes hear an argument that people want to play "good", but then why is GTA so successful? I think people want to play what they think is cool. There is no doubt that greenskins are cool (the quests are also really fun and filled with good laughs) and both sides have elves.

It is going to be interesting. This weekend will show a better trend as will the following open beta.

This is similar to what happened in WoW. The side with the lower population benefits from more chances to engage with the enemy resulting in more skill.

Scenario queue times are way shorter with order in my experience and I noticed over the weeks of the influx of CE players destruction winning most of the time switching to order winning. Practice makes perfect.

Even outnumbered, this game is still well balanced. I don't think one side or the other having less people will be more or less fun. Rather it will be just a different type of gameplay. If order is less pop, then they get to play take the keep - mixing it up to keep destruction on their toes.

The only big difference is in PvE. Then having more kinsmen can make questing go a lot faster. Also public quests can be decimated quickly if you have a lot of people. So if you do well on the rolls, more chance to win loot.

or AoC...if you can tolerate the gross lack of quality content.

Their pvp is skill based. Proof of this is the fact gear means nothing till the very end of the game.

If they do it any way similar to what they did with DAoC, the average gear that 65% of the people will play in will be fairly easy to come by. The uppder 35% will have the "uber" gear. In the end it won't matter though. If you have at least SOME gear, regardless if it's midway or highend, you'll still be competitive. It'll be more skill than gear based, I'll guarantee it.

The WAR developers weren't oblivious to the outside world. Gear will be a part of it, but it won't be the whole, nor near it. That and this game is RvR, not PvP. Here you'll fight in groups with strategies, using your brains more than your brawn. A well planned group will succeed more than a well geared group.

As for your Population concerns:
Alb > Hib > Mid ;;; Always in population for DAoC, yet...
Mid = Alb = Hib ;;; In all encounters, one would triumph, but the next fight could be totally different. Numbers DO matter, but it was an everyday thing for 1 group to kill 2 groups.

Mythic will do what they can to balance the Population, the rest is left up to the players. In general, you'll find those more looking for a challenge to play the smaller pop. These will be the players skilled and confident enough to overcome the obsticles of lesser populations. Playing smart can help a lot too. If there are more of them than you, don't fight on open ground; kinda makes sense. WoW never really had this type of strategy because the numbers have always been equal, or very close to it in their BG's and arenas.

Levels 1-10, if you know what your doing and where to go, I would say a few hours, probably close to 4-6. On my first time through it was closer to 12 to get to lvl 10, that was in part because I was having so much fun in the scenarios and pq's, which you get experience for, but you also gain RR if your doing scens.

I only have one character in the 10-20 range and I'm taking the slow route doing scen/pq's, it's taken about 4-6 hours to get to lvl 15 from lvl 10

I can't say 40+, as I've never seen someone above 21 since im in Tier2, but you can definitly tell someone who is lvl 1-10 from 10-20, most ppl in their 1-10 look naked or wearing very light armor, those in the 10-20 have their tier2 pvp armor and look way better.

You DO know that Warhammer lore has been around far before the first Warcraft and that Blizzard "took" a lot of its lore ideas straight from Warhammer, right?
