Warhammer Online access details for pre-orders and Collector's Edition
Filed under: Fantasy, Launches, MMO industry, Warhammer Online, News items

Warhammer Online fans, the promised day is almost here. Mythic has announced early access details for pre-order and Collector's Edition customers. Pre-orders get a headstart and will be invited to play as of September 15th; those who sprung for the Collector's Edition get to trump everyone else, gaining access to WAR on September 14th in addition to some of those other sweet extras that come with the CE.
Still, not all Collector's Edition customers are happy about how CE customers are being treated. One Collector's Edition buyer named 'Micah' had a nightmare of a problem with his order from Electronic Arts (EA). A simple request to not have his CE shipped to an address he no longer lives at was met with a bizarre choice to be made -- either cancel the order and lose out on the sold-out CE, or let the order stand and have it shipped to the complete strangers living at Micah's former residence. Check out the entire correspondence between EA and Micah at The Consumerist. We hope this is an isolated incident, particularly given the cost and apparent rarity of the Collector's Edition.

But on the bright side, all pre-order and CE customers should have their codes by now, and if they haven't already done so, can download the client in preparation of the servers opening up for them. Hopefully Micah can still use those codes to join them on September 14th as well.

Sounds more like employees with little or no knowledge of how to handle some situations afraid to ask supervisor for help. As asking supervisors for help in some businesses leads to bad reviews or firing.
i would escalate past the tier two help (regular cs and supervisors) and get to section management, might take a bit longer, but you will have less emails and things will get fixed quickly, as your problem should have been from the first place.
The simple excuse "businesses" give is that once the order is taken and sent to shipping it cant be stopped, that is untrue, its a hassle for them and sections are loathe to make each other angry so they tell the customer we simply cant do it or they simply do what they want............the easiest way.

The EA support is not an isolated incident. My friend has gone through hell with his two preorders trying to get two preorder codes sent out, since EA is trying to say one code per customer regardless of the number of copies ordered (he wanted one for him self and his wife). He has spent over two weeks in email hell trying to sort it out, over 8 emails and counting.

It also would help if I didn't get error messages CONSTANTLY on their site. I was having password issues (it wouldn't accept a password I had used for months now, I had to reset it twice) and combining that with vague errors on the site due to database issues (etc) has been really frustrating.
The Warhammer account site seems to run fine at least. I'd hate to have to jump through hoops to change things in that.

I'm experiencing a similar problem, although I ordered a CE from one of my local retailers.
The mistake I made was to order from a place where I had my old address registered, and of course I forgot to change the address... So now my codes have been sent to a whole different place...
And nothing to do :(

Awesome, this answers the questions I've been waiting for. Will pre-order this tonight then.

Is any one really shocked about this? Mythic has way too many hands in the cookie jar when it comes to these pre-orders, and it's just a huge mess.
After WAR and AoC, they need to learn to just stop with this pre-order crap. It's just a huge mess, and just pisses customers off. Stop with the pre-order codes and bonuses from it.
They also need to get their distribution situation fixed. They have made it so limited with the CE, and those that are distributing things, are screwing it up. Europe has been a horrible mess, and North America isn't doing that much better.
It's one place Blizzard has always seemed to have an advantage, in their distribution. I can't remember this type of mess with their products. But then I guess this is what happens when you get EA involved in things.

You're taking an isolated incident with the CE edition and generalizing that all distribution outlets are having problems. I haven heard of any problems with the pre-order stuff, aside from Amazon, but that's because a lot of people didn't know where to get their codes. It's easy to assume the sky is falling and the whole system is a mess when you've got the vocal minority QQing (justly or unjustly) on the net about one or two isolated incidents.

I ordered two copies of the CE at the same time from EA, itself, and I received both sets of codes with out any problems. Luckily, I thought ahead and realized that I would be moving in a few months and so I ordered the CE to arrive at my parents house, because I did not yet know the address of my new apartment.
So, I have had no problems with my pre-order.

Got my codes the day I pre-ordered my CE from ebgames. I ordered at one store and they kept telling me they haven't recieved their codes, so I cancelled and went to another store, they had the codes in stock. Pre-ordered there instead.

I had that exact same problem. I ordered in-store, and even the manager of the EBGames store, a former Mythic Employee, couldn't get any more codes in. So I had to cancel my pre-order and order directly from their website. I got the codes in less than an hour.

I knew this would be a problem. Anyone around for Hellgate London? Same exact thing.
So, I pre-ordered by purchasing the box from Best Buy. I knew Amazon would have it together, but I went for the physical store since I figured I would get my game faster without shipping costs. I didn't know that we could download the client ahead of time else I might have gone online for everything.
It was nice to have my CE codes immediately.

Wow, I wanted the CE, but didn't even know it was available yet. Now it's sold out. Oh well, there goes some extra cash for Mythic.

RE: Kyoji
I too thought the amazon problem was due to a lot of people being unable to locate the codes, yet I have not got my codes after 5 days (apparently marketing are working on it now).
It seems after checking around various forums I am not alone in this and most of the moaning isn't about the location of the code (there is a nice link now on the product page) but the fact that on some orders they just don't appear.

I preordered the CE from Gamestop as soon as they were available.
No code for me! They "exhausted their supply" - the annoying part was having to email them to find that out instead of them informing me.
I think I'll take my business to Amazon from now on.

No pre-order headaches for me since I missed out on the Collector's Edition. No CE, no play. If they ever do another CE and as long as the quality is good as this one appears to be(just really loved the artwork and packaging), I will consider playing.

I went with go-gamer.com and had no issues. 2 CE's bought (one for me, one for my wife), 2 separate e-mails with full codes within 24 hours.
