City of Heroes previews Winter Event

Not so long ago, City of Heroes players were treated to a preview of the upcoming Halloween Event, in which an unprecedented zombie apocalypse befell Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Yesterday, the Test Server was host to a preview of this year's Winter Event: the ski chalet was opened up again, and if there's a better example of virtual coziness anywhere in MMOs, we're not sure what it is.The main attraction this year is a new ski run. Unlike the slopes of previous years, this is a corkscrew nightmare that involves teleporters, geysers and jumps along the route. More like a toboggan run than a ski slope, it's great fun to hurtle down at breakneck speeds; badges are even available for beating preset times.
There's no change to the 'rescue Baby New Year' mission, which has now been the same two years running, but the Candy Keeper does have new goodies. CoX characters can now exchange candy canes for new costume auras, the Naughty and Nice halos (the 'nice' version is pictured above) or for some meaty new Winter's Gift invention enhancements, which were already noticed on the auction house over a week ago.
There's been some concern over the timing. However, the test run of the Winter Event doesn't necessarily mean that Issue 13 won't go live until next year. The developers are, we are told, testing the event with the current build in case Issue 13 isn't ready to go live before the Winter Event needs to.

Thats it? New costume items and a new ski slope? Now I've officially lost interest in the event.

Well. That, and the universal travel IOs. You know, travel speed and end reduction. And... the non-unique Slow Resistance 20% IO.
