'Shady camps' and more in latest Age of Conan Testlive patch
Filed under: Fantasy, Age of Conan, Patches, PvP
Just as players' patience was starting to fray again, 'Patch 3' has arrived on the Age of Conan testlive server, and it is a chunky one - we counted at least 594 meg. Feel like browsing the patch notes? Make a nice cup of something, put your feet up, take your time... there are six pages to wade through.Obviously we can't detail all of them here, but they range from the silly-but-desired 'Party people rejoice - proper drunkenness has been implemented!' to the necessary 'Fixed several causes of crashes and assert errors' to the trivial 'For decency's sake, Old Finn now has pants!'
But the most interesting new feature is the addition of Shady Camps as a complement to the new Age of Conan PvP notoriety system, as promised by Craig Morrison recently. There are several other new tweaks to the system that had us eager to see it go live. We've put them behind the cut.
As it's such a key feature, we've reproduced the salient section of the patch notes in full:
- Murderer Resurrection Points have been added, and are marked on the minimap. Murderers can only rez at these locations. Other players cannot see murderer rez points unless they are also murderers.
- PvP XP is now split between all attacking groups and individuals, based on their relative damage.
- Shady camps have been added in several locations, for use by Murderers: Look for them in Acheronian Ruins, Khemi, Old Tarantia, Conall's Valley.. camps have also been added to Field of the Dead, Eiglophian Mountains, Atzel's Approach, Tarantia Noble District, Thunder River, and Kheshatta.
- Shady Camp vendor, Cora, sells green and blue potions.
- Shield of the Risen will now remove the Criminal debuff on you.
- Con ratings for PvP have been updated, effecting murder point calculations.
- A player attacking another, who is innocent, will now be flagged as a criminal for a few minutes.
- Guards should now aggro the attacker even if the victim has a damage shield active.
- The cost for using shady teleporters correlates to the player's murderpoints.
- You will now see flying text overhead for murderpoints gained and lost.
- When you are in a playfield that is too high level for you, you will receive a debuff called Free Prey. While this debuff is on you, attackers are free to kill you without being penalized with criminal status or murder points.
We're also seeing reports that the graphics for some Tier 2 and 3 epic items have been changed.
These changes are currently only on Testlive, and may perish in the long and arduous journey to the Live servers.

Hate to be negative over and over about AOC, but the game has already officially died... Their stock is down to $5 a share and it was $55 a share a few months ago... there is 0% chance of them recovering for screwing up their launch that bad...
Doesn't matter how many patches they add onto the game, people that feel like they have been screwed over will not return to the game... funcom is full of liars and scammers in my opinion, neither I nor any of my friends will ever go back to a game Funcom produces because they lied about multiple aspects of the game, the pvp patch and the DX10.
PS - I filed a disput with my credit card company and got a $50 credit added back onto my account. Just tell your credit card company that they were using false advertising (DX10) and you will get your money back!

"Hate to be negative over and over about AOC"
I sincerely doubt you do since you continue to do it. Why not comment on the actual content of the post instead of just reading "Age of Conan" in the title and deciding it's another chance to vent?
I think these changes to make playing a griefing murderer a viable, though difficult lifestyle is great. What other PvP enabled game has done that? Only UO that I can recall and it did it accidentally. Combined with the fact that AoC's combat system is more player skill based than most other MMOs, with PvP XP and sieges, this game is shaping up to be a current gen PvP MMO'ers ideal game.

You don't really hate being negative over and over about AoC, otherwise you wouldn't post about it at all.

If games like Vanguard (might I add is actually really good now) and The Matrix Online can survive, than AoC will do just fine. Think about, how many real big MMO's actually die and close within a year or two. I can think of maybe Earth & Beyond, Auto Assault, and AC2, and maybe AC2 is the only game that even compares to player base that AoC has. That's 3 out of how many MMO's in the last 5 years. MMO's rarely die, and AoC still has too many subs and Funcom still has plenty of money so I think AoC will be around for a while.
OH, before you call me a fanboy, I actually quit AoC months ago because its just not what I expected, currently playing EvE.
