The Daily Grind: Has Warhammer earned your money for another month?

If you picked up Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning at launch, your one month of free playtime is coming to an end very soon. As with Age of Conan, that makes us wonder: are you going to subscribe for further months? Technically the launch went fairly smoothly, but there were still queues and bugs and a few different things that might have set you back. Despite that, there's been a ton of blogging about the game. Probably the most blogged-about title ever released into the MMO marketplace.

But ultimately you, as a player, decide the success or failure of WAR. You vote with your wallets, either keeping your subscription active or heading off to greener/more familiar pastures. Is the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, slated for just about a month from now, weighing on your choice? Maybe you just didn't like RvR as much as you thought you would. They'll get my buck. It's the most fun I've found for a monthly subscription fee. Its actually nice to play a game I'm really having fun with as opposed to playing one simply for the time I have 'invested' in it.

I agree. I've tried EQ2, WoW, LOTR, Vanguard, Guild Wars, etc. Nothing could pull me from EQ1. This game has and I will continue my subscription. The lore is interesting and I love doing the 'cheezy' quests while I wait in the queue for some pvp action.

I will continue my subscription as long as they don't frak it up like AoC frakked up their MMO.

I agree. I will be paying for another month. However, I'm also renewing my WoW subscription (haven't played it since Warhammer arrived). I'm looking forward to Wrath, but I can't help but feel that no matter how polished WoW is, I feel it will grow a little stale before too long. WAR is not perfect, but it has enough new and interesting things going for it that my interest in WoW will diminish in the coming months. Bravo Mythic!! :)

WoW is great for what it is but it's become a bit dated. There's no way they can reinvent the wheel at this point, the game is simply too large. I'm afraid anything they add at this point will simple be more of the same ol' grind with a few twists thrown in. For me, it was certainly time to move on to something new.

Nah, they constrained the RVR wayyy to much from Dark Age. It trivialized the RVR and it's just not what I expected. I'm sure it's not a bad game for the masses, but not what I was looking for.

I am really enjoying WAR so I will subscribe until the end of the year at least. I still have an active WOW subscription as well and I won't be able to resist WOTLK so I will buy that too.

As to which I will spend the most time with, only time will tell.

For one more month, then will probably check out the new expansion for LOTRO. We'll see where it goes from there.

I'll be renewing for sure. The Wrath of the Lich King is not introducing anything new into Warcraft and I have a strong feeling the game will become World of the Deathknight. I may try out WOTLK after the first 2 months but I already know the reviews will sing its praises but if it is truly just another WoW expansion making everything up til this point useless, then I hope reviewers give it the 6 or 7 it deserves. Just putting WoW in the title does not make it gold, they need to come up with original content and ideas. I'm just glad a company has been able to finally make Blizzard come down off that high horse they have been riding around on.

"warhammer is nice bla bla... but wotlk is coming! beware!" You're becoming sa tad monotonous.

Mythic will have my money for the months to come, while blizzard won't see a buck. Warhammer is the most fun i had in a MMO in several years, and an extremely solid product, while wotlk is a further iteration of an old and stale farmfest whose few novelties (copied from warhammer, how convenient) are just underdeveloped and trivialized accessories to act as a placebo for the gaping holes in the game's structure. After seeing the silly, ugly implementation of lake wintergrasp i have several problems at understanding the reason why anyone older than 15 might want to be farmed further by blizzard and their stale, old game based on an underdeveloped and kiddish background.

I will be sticking with WAR for a while. Ive done the WoW thing for too long, and I dont see anything cool and innovative in the new xpac.. haircuts? lol

WAR lets me lvl by pvp. add xp to WoWs pvp and that would make WoW more attractive for me. I dont have alot of time to play computer games, and I love to pvp, so I like to pvp and lvl at the same time.

When WoW was released there was EQ1 and EQ2 as competition. Sure, DAoC was out, but the big hitters were the EQs. As it built steam and fans it steamrolled everything. It is so polished, with so much to do and a budget to support new content - how can anything (within its first two months) compete with this juggernaut?

It will be interesting to see who takes the crown. I predict no one will. It will fall. People will get bored of WoW and since every other MMO out copies its successful format they won't flock to a clone. Sure, WAR should do really well. Sure KOTORO will as well, no doubt. But a successor of WoW. Not gonna happen.

I'm out of MMO's for a while until something fresh comes onto the market.

Until then, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead along with DoTA / TF2 / COD4 will be enough to keep me busy I guess.

Oh, and World of Goo is fun if you like puzzle games. ;)

Me and my wife will go on playing War. We will try WotLK at some point, but not on launchrush as we planned.. We've already decided to not start raiding like we used to, so why rush it. Mines of Moria is also on the menu, but that will surely go to late 2009.

Definite YES!!

It isn't perfect, yet, but with a great launch and ongoing improvements this game is definitely a keeper. It has been a long long time, if ever, that I have had this much fun with a game like this.

I don't think I will try out the WoW expansion at all, but I may give the LOTRO a try when it comes out.

After a year's hiatus and two weeks of WAR, I'm back in Azeroth. Mythic released a shell of a game, all the while patting themselves on the backs for knowing how to run a MMORPG. Judging from their support for Dark Age of Camelot, which is a superior game to WAR, all Mythic knows how to do is run a game into the ground. No more money from me for these wanna-be rockstars.
