LotRO dev diary looks back at creating the Warden class
Filed under: Fantasy, Lord of the Rings Online, Expansions, News items
Turbine's posted a new developer diary that exposes the creative and mechanical processes of designing the Warden, one of the new classes coming in Mines of Moria. There's something for everyone in the diary from the inspiration of the Warden to its gambit combat mechanic. We don't get an in-depth look at gambits and instead get a more introductory look at how they function. Thankfully we didn't come out of the read-through confused, in fact we felt like Turbine did a good job of laying the groundwork for understanding the class even before it hits retail.
Anyone who's watched movies like 300 or Troy is definitely going to fall in love with the Warden. Not that the class is exactly like the Spartan soldier led by Leonidas -- it evokes that imagery a bit, though. We can't wait to see the Warden in action on our monitors in just a months time.

It's going to be a tough one --- roll a Rune Keeper or a Warden first? I wasn't really interested in the Warden (sounded alot like a Champion and Captain which I already have a 50 CHMP and 50 CPT) til I read the Dev Diary. This does make it sound a lot like the warriors in 300 and Troy and their look has really come together to show this! I'm very pumped for the 18th when MoM releases!

Personally I wasn't even terribly interested in the Warden, but the class has come together better than I expected... so now I'm not too sure which I'd like to do.

Warden sounds like a lot of fun...but I'll still roll a Runekeeper first then do a Warden

The person who created and drew the inspiration for the Warden class is a genius. I'm buying the expansion for this one reason alone!
Before I was thinking it might be like the EQ2 class, but this is 100x better.
Prepare to see 100 leonidegolas on launch day! or aragonidas

God, I so wanted to like this game - I re-subbed so many times, I need to try it again after the expac hits.
