Massively's Top 5 most-anticipated features of Moria
Filed under: Betas, Fantasy, Lord of the Rings Online, Game mechanics

Follow along after the cut for our complete list, and stay tuned for more Moria beta info throughout the day.
- 5. The Balrog. We all loved the Balrog in the movie, and having the opportunity to battle that beast in-game is an exciting venture.
- 4. Two new classes. Both the Warden and Rune-keeper introduce new game mechanics, essentially making LotRO a new game for the seasoned veterans, and a new prospect for those interested in trying something different.
- 3. New Trait system. The traits have been revamped and now work much like the item sets in Shadows of Angmar. You can combine Trait sets within certain groups to add extra bonuses to your attributes. This is exciting, as it acts almost like a guide to the most effective combinations, and allows you to maximize your potential.
- 2. Legendary Items. Having a weapon and armor that can be advanced much like a companion adds a whole new level to the game. Even after our characters are at their max level, they can proceed to concentrate on their own array of unique items. It's like your own little army of items that you can raise yourself.
- 1. Quest Items leaving inventory bags. That's right. Despite the incredible game mechanic improvements, new areas and new classes, we're most excited about the quest-related items leaving the normal inventory bags and now residing in the quest log itself. This is something we think should have been implemented a long time ago, and it will be incredible to have all that space for stuff that's actually worth money!
So what are you most excited about? Let us know your most-anticipated Moria features in the comments below.

I can't figure out if you're a troll or a fanboy or an idiot. Probably a combination of all three. I just felt like pointing that out.
Before you open your mouth, how about you exercise a little basic research on a game you are bashing.
And I don't mean to be one of "those", but you really should consider proofreading before you post.

Yes, everyone know that you can get new clases in all the WoW patches... they never make a expansion to only one clase o profession.

And the purpose of your comment is to what? Prove your credentials as a WoW Fanboi? If so, you win and I hope Blizzard recognizes your contributions and awards you commensurately.

I don't even know how to respond to that. Have you even played LOTRO? I simply don't understand why one game must be better than another. And as far as milking a storyline, the WoW story is about 10 years old now.
Answering the question posed in the post, Legendary items has to be the most interesting aspect of Moria for me. Quickly followed by the Warden class.

Umm, Lol?
Yo're kidding right?
Balrog..give me one character in Azeroth that made you want to compare to the Balrog..I can't think of any.. Arthas..please, he became powerful because of a Lich..not because it is ancient power from long ago in the LORE.
New Classes? Death Knight is one class, and only if you already have a 55(?). These two classes are starting from level 1 and have to work through ALL the content like everyone else. Where do DK's start at after their instance..oh yeah Outlands
New Traits..WOW doesn't have these as they use their talents. And speaking of talents they have now officially changed every class in the game every Xpac. LOTRO hasn't.
Legenday Items...nope not for you WOW'ers unless you raid 24/7 and win a roll or have the DKP/Ninja them.
Basically these are two different games. Not at all the same. If you are soo happy with WOW keep your comments there and stop bashing a game you obviously know nothing about.

Someone will have to tell me when WoW has gotten new classes through a patch? Or new areas of this size? They both sell expansions, they both want your $50 for what is in this game. Unless you're honestly naive enough to believe that this list is all that's in it? Stop kidding yourself.
I'm constantly amazed by the amount of trolling on this site. MMORPG players are as bad as console gamers. It's pathetic. Why not just play what you like and let others do the same?
I'm glad about the quest item thing too. It is a little thing, but it helps. The game does have inventory management problems. They've done a bit to fix it, but I don't think enough. Hopefully this will change things.
I also think the introduction of the cinematic camera would be fun. I liked that aspect of Age of Conan, although sometimes it looked weird since the animations didn't really match up with what they said. People would be praising you and look like they were angry.

Ah let the WoW kid go, he prob thinks it was LOTRO that stole all of his friends when it was WaR that did it. The comments are so far off the mark its not even funny.
I did not know about the quest items leaving the bags, that is indeed great news.
I am looking forward to the Runekeeper and new content the most. (couldn't decide on one, heh)
It looks to be a fine expansion.

I would only switch the legendary items and the bag space. While I love getting my backspace free I am even more looking forward to putting my hands on that legendary bow that will soon(TM) send arrow after arrow into the hordes of orcs and other monsters blocking my path.
At 2-6: Don't feed the troll. He is just jealous that we get cool features and a cool story while WotLK contains none.

Hey! WotLK DOES have cool features! For instance PvP experience (sounds like WAR), Achievements (sounds like WAR), bigger PvP experiences (sounds like WAR), and making sure you have to grind for 100+ hours before you reach any real content by trivializing everything from levels 1 to 55! Oh, and there will be yet more 12 year olds to flame us for liking other games!

I predict a significant (relative to WAR) number of WoW players migrating to WAR within three months of WotLK -- because they are bored (again) of WoW -- and this time they will stay.
The number of WoW refugees that migrate to LotRO will continue to grow.
I unsubscribed from LotRO long ago but never removed it from my hard drive believing I would eventually return to Middle Earth. This new expansion is looking like a great excuse to re-subscribe!

@DeathMutant
I had it waiting just like you and left WOW right before the patch and haven't regretted a single second.
The only hard part I have is trying to keep from getting distracted by all the other things in LOTRO that WOW lacks.
Jess said on 2:32PM 10-20-2008
just for the record, Achievements are a LOTRO thing. That's how you get deeds, traits, virtues and titles..by killing, exploring, getting certain goals etc. WAR and WoW both took it right out of the LOTRO pages. It's even in a Book in lotro with book tabs and everything.
As for the expansion, I'm most excited about Moria itself and especially the new traits which will FINALLY let us spec our classes.
Havok said on 4:02PM 10-20-2008
My point isn't that WAR was 'first,' because that hardly matters. The point is that WoW is adding achievements b/c of WAR. And just for your own information, LotRO wasn't the first to use achievements, either.
Caledas said on 11:50AM 10-20-2008
You have to admit being able to forge a unique weapon with its own name and title has to be at the top of any list.
Chink-Finder, Bane of Orcs or something like that. :)

I must need my morning coffee. I initially read your proposed weapon name as "Chick-Finder, Babe of Orcs"! :-D

At poster #1...Wow..just...man....phew.
I played WoW for a long time and liked aspects of the game but found many times at 60 and then again at 70 asking why I even bothered logging in, I was so bored with the game, really nothing to do but run instances or raids and hope like hell that something useful would drop for me. Did it all including raiding (except Naxx and Black Temple) and I just don't see WotLK drawing me back in.
LOTRO is a game that I have been entertained with for a while now and the expansion is going to make it even better, and there is so much more to build on...just wait until they introduce Rohan, Gondor and Mordor....the game will be GIGANTIC, and it already feels huge!
Great game, which is horribly under-rated by most gamers...

Here's what I'm looking forward to:
The ten new levels. I've been working on traits for my level 50 character but it feels like a grind..whereas ten new glorious levels of xp will be great.
A Huge new world to explore. The areas in Moria are simply amazing. As much time as I have spent wandering I haven't seen everything. The world beneath is like nothing I've seen in a game in a very long time.

Regarding Legendary Weapons, it is fun not just leveling them up, but discovering and applying relics to enhance certain traits of the weapon. It gives an added dimension to character and class development.
My favorite area: The Flaming Deeps

I am looking forward to more bag space/better inv management! (How many of us carried Bilbo's magnifying glass around forever until we stumbled on Gollum's cave in Goblin Town?)
Oh yeah, and the new classes, legendary items, and huge new Moria content are also a minor plus... ;)
