Player reactions to WoW zombie plague are both positive and negative

1up.com took a look at player reactions on the official World of Warcraft forums and what they found was a slightly mixed response. While our guess is that this is a vocal minority, some players are calling this temporary event a contradiction to the very notion of PvE servers. While that may be true if this were a permanent change, it's an event, and with the launch of war upon Lich King Arthas, we'd like to think that some people would be a bit more accepting of a one-time-only experience like this one. Oh well, at least it looks like most are enjoying their brain-eating moments.

I don't quite get what you mean by calling WoW static. World events, open air pvp, players running around everywhere interacting with each other, auctionhouses, an enormous and active community, continually expanding content etc.....
I wonder what you would call a dynamic game then (apart from Eve).

LOTRO is much more Dynamic, AoC is Dynamic.
WoW and WoW's gameworld are completely unchanging, completely static.

WoW (and pretty much all MMOs) are mostly static because no matter what the players do, nothing ever changes. Or at least not for long. No matter how many times the players kill Van Cleef, Ragnaros or Kil'jaden, they're still there for the next person to kill. No matter how many times players 'save' a town it is still in the same peril when you come though the next time.
The only time that things really change is on Blizzard's will, such as with the citizens of the Lower City Bazaar (Griftah, Cro Threadstrong, Granny Smith etc). Or in major events like the opening of Ahn Qiraj or the Dark Portal.
With this event though, players have more control than ever. It's still all scripted by Blizzard, and things will go back to more or less normal given time, but the players have more control over this event than any other in the past.
They can choose to be infected and infect others. They can choose to fight against the Scourge invasion or try to pretend it's not happening. (Sorry to all the people complaining that the event is interrupting their questing and such, but there's a major war going on here. You can't expect in a warzone to just pop off down to the store as if nothing was happening.)
And in the end, player-zombies make more interesting and devious foes than having some low level undead hanging around outside major cities waiting to be farmed for their event item drops.

did i miss somthing the major part of the zombies are npc right not players. so PvE event somehow contradiction to the very notion of PVe servers. HUH????.............i dont get it can someone plz explain that too me. /em goes off to do research

Well, player zombies can attack other players and turn them (except in Sanctuary zones like Shattrath), regardless of PVP flags. Basically the player-zombies are treated as monsters while they are turned, and everyone is hostile to them. Also, the player-zombies can infect important NPCs, or just make things generally unpleasant. But then again, players could always do that before.
So yes, there is a bit of a 'forced' component to this world event for people who don't want to get involved in zombie bashing. But then again, even if there weren't players being turned into zombies players would still be 'forced' to deal with the event. Whether NPCs are being turned by some algorithm in the game or by players, they're still there.
And in the end, it's not going to last all that long. People can wait a few minutes for quest givers or flight masters to respawn. I intend to fully enjoy this event and the opportunities it presents. Who knows when something like this will ever happen again?

WoW's pretty static, but you have to give Blizzard some kudos for trying to liven things up.
Still, their efforts pale in comparison to say Asheron's Call. Anyone who played it knows what I mean. Of course, most of you haven't since the majority of you began playing MMOs when WoW went retail or sometime after.

I'm enjoying this event. Its something new and different and its only temporary. The people that are complaining are probably the same ones who complain that Blizzard doesn't add enough new content.
