CoX players seek elusive zombie trigger

As City of Heroes players will know, Paragon City and the Rogue Isles were recently rocked by a wave of zombie invasions, as hordes of the crumbling dead clawed their way up from beneath the lawns and sidewalks. As events go, it was a great success. It was thought that with the passing of the Season of the Witch, the invasions would cease, and indeed they have; however, recent arcane communications have confirmed that the players can cause an invasion to take place, in a similar way to that in which Rikti invasions are triggered by the completion of a Lady Grey Task Force. This is excellent news for badge collectors, as the chance to earn badges for zombie defeats now won't be limited to a short time window.
For some reason, when an event in CoX is player-triggered (or believed to be player-triggered) some peculiar theories tend to crop up. For example, several players originally believed Lusca the Giant Octopus was summonable, and you still sometimes come across people who think they can spawn the Giant Monster battle in the Grim Vale.
This one's definitely spawnable, though. The players have been hard at work trying to find out the trigger, and at the time of writing, it seems that turning in Halloween salvage to earn a new costume slot is the number one theory. It's not proven yet, so feel free to join the necromantic researches.

What exactly is a badge again? Is it wearable or does it give you any advantage at all?

Most badges are just titles, but some badges give special powers such as extra hit points or resistance against psionic damage for a period of time, or unlocks a special costume piece like a pumpkin head.

I can confirm that zombie invasions indeed do continue after the Halloween event is over, and have seen several. They are by no means as common, and the server wide zombie attacks striking all zones simultaneously seem to be gone at least until next year.
One did occur shortly after I turned in Halloween salvage on a seldom played character. This is not proof, of course, but it is evidence. Part of it may be that it waits until game "night" - the game day/night cycle lasts 1/2 hour IIRC - until spawning the zombies. I used the event to stockpile Halloween salvage for future characters in all of my super groups, so the event may well be testable.
