Warhammer Online 1.0.6 patch adds new classes, tidal wave of updates
Filed under: Fantasy, Patches, Warhammer Online, News items
All those Warhammer Online players who where playing along with the Heavy Metal event in November will be happy to know that today the fruits of their labor has arrived. That's right: Today, Mythic brings us Black Guards and Knights of the Blazing Sun! For those who didn't finish the full Heavy Metal event, don't worry, the classes will become available to everyone next week. Servers are going down at 3:30AM PST / 6:30AM EST for North American players with Oceanic servers following at 9:00AM EST. No specific time-frame was given for the updating process, so we'll just have to sit tight and wait it out.
New classes aren't the only thing found in this patch, however. There's a ton of general game updates, performance updates, bug fixes and class tweaks coming with the 1.0.6 patch, too. In fact, there are so many class tweaks that Bright Wizards, Chosen, Engineers, Ironbreakers, Maguses (Magi?), Shadow Warriors, Sorcerers, Squig Herders and Swordmasters are all getting their mastery points refunded. Combat also seems to be a big focus, with a ton of improvements to auto-attack animations, ability responsiveness, morale responsiveness and root responsiveness.
All in all, we're pretty impressed with Mythic on this patch, as it delivers some substantial changes that many players have been waiting to see.

I completed the event yet I don't have much incentive to actually try either of the new classes. I'm still waiting for fundamental changes to the way RvR works. Until then, they aren't getting another month's pay.

And people wonder why games don't want to have official forums anymore. They end up being a soap box for persistent complainers, that now just do their thing elsewhere.
Good to see them making some nice changes and adjustments.

Sorry for "complaining", but I don't feel the need to re-explain my views on the game with every new WAR-related post.
So I don't develop a reputation as some WoW-lover, which everyone seems to assume a complainer is (I don't play WoW), I'll explain my view on the game. Again.
I appreciate the patch. The work on balancing the classes, working out bugs, and adding in the two Black Metal classes is appreciated. I'll definitely be logging in for the next week or so until my free month ends.
Beyond that though, I'm just not ready to commit more money to the game. I think it's the most solid MMO release of the year, but I want Mystic to take the focus off of scenarios and put it on ORvR before I decide to dive-in head-first.
As a college student, I'm just picky with my money. WAR is currently my favorite pay-to-play MMO, but money is tight and the game still disappoints me more than I like, so it's on probation. That leaves me with Guild Wars to fiddle with until I decide to give something else another go.

Little to late for me, I will not be renewing. RvR is so messed right now, LoS issues/exploits still plague everything and they are still in it since alpha!

Well, I'm excited, at least! This is going to make a world of difference for my Squig Herder - I can't wait to try out the fixed spines and armor abilities.

They had their chance to get it right - before launch.
Why would anyone be excited that they're delivering what they should have after THREE MONTHS of paying blindly? I'm not even talking about the classes... simply the attempted fixes to their broken game.

OMG! It's a MMORPG! The most complicated game type... you can't develope a totaly complete game! Nobody can do it! Just look at World of Warcraft, the Blizzard still developing it since 2004! Warhammer Online had the smoothest launch ever in the history of MMOG-s I think.
So what else I can say? Well... just like on the National Geographic Channel... Think Again! ;)

There's a difference between developing and fixing.
There are CORE game design flaws within Warhammer, just like there are in Conan, that prevent it from being "fixed". They are interwoven too deeply. The game will remain what it is, no matter what they try polish enough to make it shiny... it will not make it a good game.
I'm not saying some elements of it aren't fun, but it will never be a complete gameplay experience and never, ever have the longevity of what an MMO should.

That's all your opinion. I completely disagree, as it gives me hours of fun, and more then what I'd hoped for in an MMO.
I'd like some small things changed, but overall I wanted large scale epic PVP w/ game efecting outcomes, some immersive PvE (w/out making it an lolasiangrinder), and things to do and explore durning down time w/out having to spend hours traveling large continents. WAR delivers on that for me.
I think the game will be a top tier MMO for a long time, and if they keep up w/ the dedication and listening to their players the way they have over the first 3 months, it'll come faster then I expect.

Because ignoring legitimate criticism worked so well for Vanguard...

... Vanguard was over-hauled and revamped long ago, and the recent GU6 has brought it up to at least EQ2 standards. You should try it again, it's brilliant.

Saying, "OMG the game is horrible and can never be good and this patch is blah because I don't like Warhammer"...isn't "legitimate criticism"....and that's what I've seen here. They're not even talking about the patch which this post is about.

it's pretty nice to see that developers are trying to do their best to fix a game that was pushed to the shelves way to soon.
i hope that in the next few years (if the games lives that long) they fix up and enhance a lot of things. i am not, now will i be playing the game - but for those that hope for updates from this game, i hope you get them. for you are paying for htem. and blind devotion is not the answer when you are spending money.

Geez, I'm a bit surprised and the venom directed toward Mythic/WAR. I do admit not understanding how they released with the sluggish combat and inaccuracy of trigger abilities in a game with a focus on PVP/RVR which lacks time to react twice because the game isn't responsive. There is no way in heck this wasn't evident during testing and BETA.
That said, I'm glad they are introducing a significant fix and I hope it will improve the overall game play. As a current subscriber, I think fixing flawed game mechanics is still more important than, "ZOMG, we need more RVR!" Simply because oRVR is annoying when base mechanics don't work as expected.

I agree with Lethality.
I cancelled my sub last week and as long as I don`t see them fix the server stability and make the ORvR works,I won't resub.

I'm pretty excited. I've only experienced the stability issue once (at a fort no less) and our server crashed. While it did leave a sour taste in my mouth, the overall fun I have in the game trumps the server stability.
Every game has it's problems, and WAR has it's, but it pails in comparison to a lot of other games on the market.
I don't know many games that can handle 100 vs 100 pvp to such a broad scope of system reqs at all. WAR at least handles it a lot better then most. And I'm pretty sure they're hard at work to fix the issue.
As for this patch...
HOO RAY! for CC nerf. The Magus were out in force last night, spamming rift in a last ditch effort.

I don't get the complaining.
WAR isn't perfect, no doubt about it, but it's possibly the best attempt at something a little different and engaging than the PvE-centric MMOs we've had in a good while.

I'm going to make an MMO where you logon and complain about other MMOs... only $1.99 a month!
I can see the 40 man raids on ranting about WoW. Or the 5 man instances crying about WAR. And have a entire capitol city for all the Funcom haters.
I'll be RICH!

Screw you! As I already posted here like fifty times, every other time you've posted about this, I hate MMO-Complaining MMO; I cancelled my sub weeks ago, before it was cool to cancel your sub. WoW-haters are overpowered - last night a WoW-hater ten levels under my TR-troll flamed me like fifty times. Until you nerf them and buff LotRO-apologists like everyone wants, you're going to keep losing subs. And there should be more QvQ gameplay. I can't get even two other people to go QvQ campaign with me. They just want to grind blogs over and over. Fix the problems with Forum Capture that you should have seen during beta and make the other players play the way I want and then I'll consider giving your pathetic MMO another try.
Until then, you can find me at MMO-Complaining-MMO-Complaining MMO, complaining about MMO-Complaining MMO.
...Oh crap, MMO-Complaining-MMO-Complaining MMO sucks too!
