Second Life 1.22 (RC4) now available
Filed under: Bugs, Patches, News items, Second Life
Linden Lab have made a new Second Life viewer release-candidate available. RC4 is the fifth release in the 1.22 series (Linden Lab starts counting from RC0). Mostly this version seems to be about final polish.
This edition has two more crash fixes, assorted tune-ups to defective UI elements, a small bundle of localization fixes and some almost completely impenetrable alterations to the thread watchdog (however it does now default to being off). We're not expecting an RC5 before this goes live - unless something outstandingly broken crops up. Full release notes for this version are after the jump.
Changes:
- Changed: Turn off Thread monitoring (Watchdog) for RC4
- Changed: Have crashes from watchdog to report an error to stats instead of crash
- Added: Add startup state to viewer's crash report
- Added: Add the crashed thread's ID to viewer's crash report
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed: the default color for Text Chat from your avatar should not be blue
Bug Fixes from the Public Nightly viewers:
- Fixed: VWR-10577: chat history and IM history does not automatically scroll when they have focus
- Fixed: VWR-10362: UI [and Ambient] sounds can remain persistent even though disabled
- Fixed: VWR-10397: The 'X' in front of the 'View' menu entries 'Local Chat', 'Communicate' and 'Inventory' isn't toggled
- Fixed: VWR-10686: Snapshots: Save doesnt grey out anymore to indicate if you saved a snapshot already
- Fixed: VWR-10688: Script Editor has no hovertips
- Also Fixed: VWR-4235: Hovertips not showing in LSL Editor
Crash Fixes:
- Fixed: crash on opening Local Chat from Communicate in certain conditions
- Fixed: crash on LLImageJPEG::errorOutputMessage
Localization Fixes:
- Added: CT-98 - CT-116: Brazilian Portuguese translations for remaining strings & phrases - version 1.22
- Added: CT-85: Hungarian translations for remaining strings & phrases - version 1.22
- Fixed: Change all single quotes ' to proper German quotes in the UI
- Fixed: the World menu should open the localized Account History / My Account web pages in German, Japanese, Korean, French
- Fixed: Localize the string "Mute List" in the Communicate flyout button
- Fixed: Fix all truncated strings in Japanese, German translations
Release candidate viewers access your live account on the main Second Life grid (Agni). Potentially they may cause hair-loss in pets, and should be always be kept out of reach of children. The downloads are served by Amazon's S3 service and we use and recommend the use of a download manager to keep your download times to a minimum.
Notably, while they're called release candidates, they're actually beta (and occasionally alpha) releases. The reasoning behind calling them release candidates has never been made clear.
You can download this viewer from the usual place for Windows, Mac and Linux.

For the love of all that is holy can we please stop with the at least daily reporting on some obscure Second Life stuff, which is out of line for the demo of most of the readers if this site.

I find this post relevant. If you don't, then either skip it, or subscribe to RSS feeds specific to the topics/MMOs you are interested in.
I think that Tateru does a great job -- keep up the work Tateru!

What Chris and T said. We've already lost every SL reporter on this site but Tateru; don't begrudge us the one remaining! This site is easily filterable in all sorts of ways... if you don't want to read about Second Life, you'll never have to. For those of us who do, this is important reporting and analysis.

I agree with Chris. Tateru does some of the best reporting on SL.
Take a chill pill lethality and learn to use the filter tools of the site.

Why, lethality? is your virtual world the only world out there whose news is worth telling?

Thank You Tateru, I also appreciate your work. I read your posts every day and sad if there is nothing posted. Whenever there is an SL update, I check Massively before updating.
Keep up the great work!
