Slay a festive goat to win game-time and prizes in AoC
Filed under: Fantasy, Age of Conan, Contests, Events, in-game
In keeping with the macabre nature of the Conan world, you won't be helping orphans for Age of Conan's seasonal event. Nope. No delivering festive cookies to elves or spreading holiday love. Just hunting down mountain goats. Nothing says Christmas in Hyboria like a freshly slain and skinned goat carcass for that special someone. The problem in this particular case is that these "holiday" goats are in short supply -- extremely short supply in fact, as there will only be one special goat per server. All the bragging rights (and prizes) go to one lucky person per server who manages to track it down.
There will be a hefty portion of luck involved in winning your server's event, but Funcom is also providing clues to the goat's whereabouts in the form of riddles on the official site. The events will take place on different days across the servers, and the goats won't be in the same place either. Now we've got to admit that we were a bit slow to catch this (we'll blame the spirit of the holidays for making us lazy) and some servers have already had their riddles posted and goats killed. However, if your server hasn't had the event yet, then it will be either be on later today, or the 29th, the 30th, or the 31st of December. Each server's winner will receive a pack of prizes (the same as the Season give-away pack) and two months of free game-time. Happy hunting!

Fail? :D
The only thing they could think of was goats... So the developers are sooo bad they can't even add any christmas type items to the game? Where are the trees, lights and other holiday items?

This isn't Warcraft stupid, merry Christmas!

Their events have been completely lackluster since launch. For halloween they didn't find anything more creative than spawning a ton of undead monsters in Khemi with nothing special added.
This pretty much shows the disastrous conditions in which funcom is lately. I really regret having wasted several months of my life feeding them money.

Oh and by the way Mercerfy, if your fanboyism lets you think straight for a little bit, there are plenty games (Warhammer on top, but there are others as well), that besides not being warcraft and being fantasy, managed to create festive events that are a ton more creative than funcom's totally lackluster goats, and still are plenty in line with the game's background and IP.
If you think that in the conan world there are no festivities, then your vision of it is quite simplistic and stereotyped.

You really think the world of Conan is going to get all tootsy-fruitsy, with christmas tree's and frilly bowed boxes? What's mroe hardcore than killing goats?

For those "fanboys" that don't think that Age of Conan could have had some sort of event, you're sadly mistaken.
Let's get something clear real quick: Before the birth of Jesus Christ there was several paganistic holidays around this time of the year in celebration of the Winter Solcistis (sp>?). So, there were things before Christmas, Hannaka, Kwanza (which is still only less than 50 years old anyways), ect. Also, the New Years celebration is in association with our calanders which are based off the Greek calanders made centries before Christ's birth.
So...anyways, I'm sure there could have been any number of holiday events that associated itself around Winter Solcistis or the New Year or whatever. Hell, they could have done a Festivel of Crom where everyone worshiped Crom or something....who knows..
But, the point is...their creativity is severly lacking and they show little care for their customers.
I will point out, like Abriael already did, that in WAR the events are IP fitting and not in relation to current holidays, yet still entertain and make more enjoyment for the playerbase. It's a perfect example of how it should be done.
-Witching Night: No candy, no pumpkins, no trick or treating....instead there's ghosts of past warriors who spawned, witches that come up trying to cast evil magic on the world, ect. Sure, there were masks, but even then the masks were fitting to the monsters in-game.
-Heavy Metal: Kill players and smash them again, and again, and again until unlocking a trophy and the ability to play a few new careers early. It was time around Thanksgiving, but was more in tune with just slautering people without really giving thanks. Of course, it introducted Reikland Factory as a cool new (temporary) scenario.
-Keg End: No X-mas trees, no boxed gifts, no elfs (except those in-game alread), no St. Nick. Instead, it's mostly a Dwarven event (don't really know why Destruction get involved, but they do) where everyone drinks, drinks, shoots off fireworks, and drinks some more. Inbetween all the drinking there's fighting players to get some brew off of them (to drink some more), killing Ogres to get some brew off of them (to drink some more), and all the while trying to get a drinking title, a drinking trophy, and a Battle Brew Backpack.
Now, the reason I bring all this up is because Age of Conan has now been out for 7 months and Warhammer Online has been out for 3 months......yet who's entertaining their playerbase and appealing to them more? Oh, that's right, the 3 month old game.
