ArenaNet's Art Director speaks on the artistic direction of Guild Wars
Filed under: Fantasy, Guild Wars, Interviews, MMO industry, Guild Wars 2
As we anxiously await any morsel of news regarding ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2, it's still nice to hear the occasional interview along the way. Recently, Allakhazam sat down with ArenaNet's Art Director, Daniel Dociu, to talk about his experience in the gaming industry, his evolution at ArenaNet and his visions for Guild Wars. While we get no news of GW2, the interview is interesting nonetheless."We built this art team from a handful of people to somewhere in the neighborhood of fifty people now." Dociu said in the interview. "They have been more or less hand picked from the best talent pool that the industry had to offer. It's a team that I'm personally proud of and very protective of and that's what I would consider that my main contribution to the game."

Maybe they're having to rework elements of GW2 to respond to developments in the genre. Making a multi-sharded persistent-world fantasy game may not be a good idea. Then again it could be vaporware.

Yea, all this GW news is the biggest tease. I load up the front page, see "GuildWars" and hope to see its about the sequel. I feel rather dissapointed when its always some interview with a member of the dev team. Its nice to see behind the curtain a bit, but why so much behind the scenes GW exposure now at a point when most everybody is waiting to hear about GW2?

I'm glad that Anet has an art director that believes in traditional art and style over photorealism and tech-buzzwords. One of the things that always draws me back to GW is how beautiful it is, even after all these years.

I really start thinking there is no GW2.... A game btp (Buy to play) never any monthly feeds with a nice pvp setup and a makeover more like Wow where you can jump!! And all the stuff what make Guild Wars a good game much be a dream.....
