A nice feature for the current player base which will hopefully let folks try out other looks from the standard gear necessary to play the higher levels. I will have to disagree with Mr. Zenke on one part he stated though, when he said:
"In a way the system reintroduces one much beloved portion of pre-NGE SWG, which often saw players wearing varied outfits."
This may have been true for the non combat players but it became very apparent early on that composite armor was THE top end armor and quickly became the standard armor for almost all combatants. The only time we saw variety was in the non-combat professions, the Ranger classes or when combatants couldn't afford the, at the time high cost of comp armor yet.
Still, its a great little feature for the current playerbase and one I'm sure they will enjoy alot.

That's definitely a good point, Baron. Lots of folks wandering around in that Composite if I recall. Generally, though, I've found post-NGE SWG to be more staid and restricted about gear and appearance than pre-.

Very true about the current armor states. Most folks have moved from the comp to the mandalorian or few other armor sets (names elude me at the moment) for most combatant types.
This may get folsk to dust off that old Stormtrooper or Rebel armor that became house displays once they introduced that stat'd armor later on. The best of both worlds for them.

Varied clothing was not just something that was limited to non combat characters.
You forget that Pre-CU and Pre NGE SWG was a social as well as a combat game. When not in combat or just hanging out in the cantina players wore normal clothes. And with macros it was quite easy to quickly equip armor.
Also unless doing the corvette or DWB TKM's didn't wear armor.

Very true Tigress and I would say folks treat this just as much a social game now than before the NGE, none of that has really changed. From clothing to socializing, to player run quests and events, etc. The times I have visited the game again this has remained a constant from pre-CU to today and you can find folks dressed in a million different styles.
My point was pertaining more to the combat aspect and the selctions of armor which, even in pre-CU, were limited on the most part to one or two sets to be a viable combatant. The only thing that was usually different was the color of the armor. I remeber seeing many a PVE and PVP event with players in a rainbow assortment of comp armor running all over the place. I prefered Ubese personally, but since the protections could never compare to comp, I was not as useful to a group.
With this tool now, folks can put there best armor on and still design an appearance that's unique to them. This was something that was needed from day 1 of SWG.

Why will they not release a classic server? For the love of John, tell me Michael Zenke!

It really pisses me off that TOR comes to light and now the Devs kick shit into high gear to finally give the community thing that have been requested since the NGE.

I used to wear primarily clothing with high end tapes. It was 90-95% as effective, and far more fun.
This is an awesome system.

I would go back to SWG if they released a classic server.
