Dungeons and Dragons Online celebrates 3rd birthday
Filed under: Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Events, in-game, Game mechanics, News items

It may not feel like it to some of us, but Dungeons and Dragons Online is almost three years old already. Turbine announced that they'll be celebrating DDO's birthday in style, with bonus XP and loot for anyone who joins in: "Starting this Friday, February 27th, and running through
That's a lot of exclamation points but the message is clear; it's definitely a good time to jump into Dungeons and Dragons Online if you've been curious about the game, or have been away for a while. The third anniversary celebration is a limited window of XP opportunity so don't miss out.

Translation:
Mod 9 will not be ready until late March at the earliest or sometime during April. Until that time, here is bonus XP for the next two weeks, so your don’t say we didn’t do anything for the third anniversary.

Damn I wish DDO didn't suck :( They could do a great fantasy universe with a real persistent world.

'D & D:The Forgotten Realms Online' would be a WoW killer, or at least its strongest rival, if it ever happens. And also with mounts, a persistent world, enemies like the Red Wizards of Thay and The Underdark awaiting the players, I'd be there applying for the Alpha like a shot.
If only...

It's called LOTRO.
And it's better.
DDO players are the biggest assholes I've ever come across in all of my gaming years.
I'm *glad* DDO is a poor cousin to Middle Earth. And I'm equally glad that all the inane, rabid, stat-munching, noob-calling elitist jerks that play it are locked away there out of harm's way as well.

LOTR, is developing nicely, especially since they got around the five Wizards problem with the rune-keeper.
Still pining for the Forgotten Realms though, a world that has been in development from the 60's. :)

Forgotten Realms would indeed give WoW a run for its money, but only if they use 4th Edition rules, and only if they let Blizzard develop it instead of Turbine.

Double XP until February 29th, huh ? That's AWESOME, considering the next February 29th isn't until 2012 !

It took Turbine three years, but at least DDO is really fun now. (it sucked pretty bad at launch).
And I can't say i've had has the same experiences as Amana. Though I haven't reached end game yet, pretty much everyone I have grouped with has been pretty nice and real helpful; haven't grouped with any 'douchebage elitists' yet as least. :)

..and I sincerely hope you don't, Blindside044.
Sorry if I came across raged, however the vast majority (ie 'nearly all') of my experiences ingame and on the forums have been an exercise in unhelpfulness and eliteness.
Perhaps I've been unlucky, or you have been lucky, but personally I loathe DDO's community with much contempt, to the point where I wish them the very worst.

Tried DDO, just didn't like it. It struck me as lifeless and contrived. No immersion into character at all.
I thought it was all Turbine's fault.
Then I tried Lord of the Rings online. Sucked me right in. I am still playing. So, it was not all Turbine's fault, they do know how to make a great game.
That great game, to me, is just not DDO.
