WAR's trial key offer extended to non-subscribers
Filed under: Fantasy, Warhammer Online, News items
Two days ago, we got word of a new 10-day free trial offer from Mythic and Warhammer Online. This promotion was originally only for subscribers who wanted to come back and try the game again, but today it has been announced that Mythic and FilePlanet will offer a limited number of these 10-day trial keys for non-subscribers as well.
That's right, if you've been curious about the game but never actually took the plunge, you can have yourself a field day (or 10) absolutely free. Our previous post gave a good bit of info on the trial terms, but if you find yourself unsure, check out the complete Free Trial FAQ at Mythic's website.

You should mention in your article that the trial is only available to Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and U.S. residents. Anyone else is S.O.L.

So I guess we'll have to wait until they decide to let the rest of the world in... >.>

I'm a sucker for those free trials but my characters only got to level 20 or so in WAR. Going back for 10 days will no doubt only bring back the feelings of frustration I had the first time around.

Maybe EA owns/has good relations with Fileplanet.
Would certainly seem that way since they both run very similar business practices aimed to screw over both subscribers and non subscribers of their service.

At the moment the EXIT of War players is....
catastrophic.
Don't agree? ...
look at: http://www.xfire.com/games/who/Warhammer_Online_Age_of_Reckoning/
In January the game already lost 25% as from the December stats (supposed 300K then coming from 800K).
And now February shows another 20% loss compared to 3 weeks ago.
Of course the roughly 3000 Xfire players is way offf the high number of 15.000 Xfire players in October 2008. But it just shows the game keeps on losing subs.
Anyone surprised really?
Now I think the free trial will not do it any good either. Because 10 days is way too long for a trial period for WAR.
Perhaps the Slayar patch could help a bit to lure in some.
But I see this baby at the same scale as AoC by summer 2009 (100-120K subs max).
Meaning BOTH "Wow killers" will have to settle for a 0.5 to 1% market share.
Grtz.
Waiting for KOTOR I suppose.....

I gave the trial a go. Less than an hour later, I stared with utter boredom at my screen. It's a bit sad, but I'm finding the F2P Beta of Runes of Magic to be far more compelling than WAR.

LOL you clearly haven't played enough of WAR then.
Not that Runes of Magic is bad, it's actually really good for a F2P, but WAR is way way way way better.
My standing goes like this.
Best PvP - WAR, erm... The rest kind of suck. lol
Best Graphics - AoC, LotRO comes second
Best PvE - WoW, LotRO comes ceond
Best Story - LotRO, WAR comes second
Best F2P - RoM, Lots of second places.
That's my opinion, but give WAR a shot, it's a really good game no matter what the idiots on the forums say, however NO NO NO game is perfect, this goes for WoW too.

@Hardy
I've clearly played enough WAR to realize that it's not my cup of tea. If you enjoy, great. Knock yourself out.

Here's a question I'd like to ask WAR people, would PvE players enjoy WAR? Or should I not even bother and wait for a good new PvE game?

If your interest is exclusively or primarily PvE, then no, you should not bother with WAR.

Love your logic there Bossy.
Let's say ten percent of those Xfire users represent WAR players. Despite the "massive" number of people leaving the game, all that equates to is what, a hundred people? Its an insignificant statistic.
I play the game - if anything the number of people playing is growing.

You'll have to excuse bossy, he's a simple minded fookwit who thinks things start and end with xfire and Blizzard.
