Quick Mortal Online preview

Mike at MMOCrunch has a short look at Star Vault's Mortal Online, a Swedish MMOG still in development. He doesn't get in depth, but does a good job of summarizing the game's selling points.
The game appears to hail from the open world school of design, offering open looting; real-time, Elder Scrolls-esque combat; and level-free advancement (it's still a class-based game).
What sticks out here is the Deva system: "There is a third type called Deva Skills," he says, "which is a skill that links all your created players. For instance, if you learned "Poison Making" and made this your Deva skill, any future characters you create will automatically have this skill so you don't need to retrain them."
Mortal Online is due out sometime this summer, but given how quiet the official site is - and the fact the game isn't yet in beta (sign up here)- a summer release likely isn't in the cards.

I completely disagree. The beta vid is what hooked me.

Can't wait for this game to get into Beta. It's shaping up to be everything Darkfall promised and never delivered on, all in one of the best engines on the market and with some of the best looking graphics in an MMO.
Here's hoping they don't screw the pooch, like every other MMO developer these past few years.

Awsome graphics and hardcore pvp mmo's doesnt compute i am afraid. As i said in another MO thread,
show me a non instanced battle with a 100 or more ppl that its not a slide show and then i ll believe. Sadly i havent seen anything like that in that video. Also the fact that MO is sceduled for a summer release and its forums are a ghost town well doesnt seems promising
Well time will tell.....

The forums aren't a ghost town. Not even close. I'm on there every day and there is usually hundreds of people on there. Right now there are 162 people on there.
I don't know if you consider that good or bad though.

Would you prefer forums like the ones Darkfall Had/has? Trust me, "quiet" is good...

You're completely correct in your assessment of the MO forums, Ariel. Anyone with half a brain who used to frequent MOFO has already made a break for the exit; Mortal Online will become just another 1v1 dueling MMO as the community has been effectively put to rest over the course of the last 3 months or so.
Where Aventurine had trouble keeping the fanbois on a leash in forumfall, Starvault in its infinite wisdom decided to actually put a few fanbois in charge of their forum as well as their official IRC channel. As a direct result more knob polishing fanbois in IRC cajole mods like StJudas (!) / Syche and Duce (!) / themizh into enforcing forum and IRC rules ('religion and racism/facism' as well as forum etiquette) haphazardly with only a token effort (if any) to explain why posts have been deleted. Thou shalt not criticize those in charge, nor expect them to be forthcoming with changes in rule enforcement!
If I wanted to enroll in grade school again, I'd rather walk 2 blocks than spend a monthly subscription :D Oh well, back to EvE again I guess (or Alganon, who DO grok the concept of communities making or breaking an MMO ^^).

I check the MO forums a couple times a week, and they do not seem like a ghost town to me. They are not as busy as other MMO forums because there hasn't been a huge amount of information about the game yet.
