The Secret World approaches revelation

If you're unaware of Funcom's newest project, The Secret World, it's about time you knew that the secret is about to be unveiled. Forget the stigma associated with Funcom and Age of Conan, and consider the fact that The Secret World comes to us from Ragnar Tørnquist, the man behind The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. The unraveling of clues that lead up to this game's reveal is impressive, but not as impressive as the fact that The Secret World's community is comprised of some of the most intelligent gamers you'll find this side of EVE. We have games that are hardcore for strategists, games that are hardcore for economists, games that are hardcore for the combat-savvy, but with The Secret World, we will finally get an MMO that was made for the hardcore conspiracy theorists, history buffs and puzzle solvers out there.

Case in point, a recent teaser video was released showing certain decipherable codes that led to a new Alternate Reality Game website called Sanctuary of Secrets. Leave it up to the TSW community to crack the codes and discover the hidden secrets. Of course Funcom has not officially commented on their involvement with this site, but it goes to show the passion brewing in the people anticipating this game. Ever since our demo at GDC last month, we've been itching to let our readers know what's in store. Tomorrow the embargo will lift and everything we know will be revealed, so stay tuned!

This indeed looks like a good game. Short level cap and a big endgame with mysteries! I even liked AoC though , just not enough to play it forever.

As much as I'd like to look at the game based on one developer's past, I cannot. If anyone recalls Tabula Rasa (who doesn't?), then they'd know Richard Garriot was the key behind that game and had just a spectacular gaming history.....and TR flopped.

So, to bank The Secret World on the guy from The Longest Journey/Dreamfall (my signed copy sitting on the shelf next to me) isn't reliable. The only thing that is reliable is if they hire 2x the bug-fix departement and 2x the content developers that they did for Age of Conan. Two things that hindered that game's launch was the horrid Patches that released full of bugs and glitches, and the lack of any usefull content post-Tortage Isles.

Tabula Rasa and Garriot have nothing to do with this game...you shouldn't judge a completely separate game based on the failure of one individual who has absolutely nothing to do with this ip. Besides, it would be stupid to believe that Ragnar is the only person working on this game, anyway.

You people are gluttons for punishment. Bernie goes to jail for fraud, his clone steps up and does the same thing, people smile and gladly give their money away...... (for those that dont understand the above, you probably never will)

Common sense is also dead in the gaming industry as garbage companies put out clones of crap and folks flock to the same companies and devs that have failed time and time again, not to mention funcoms abhorrent customer service record. And you wonder why the world is the way it is. *chuckle*

This will be the first mmorpg that I'm interested in playing but won't buy at launch or preorder. I got burned with AoC and WAR so I'm going to sit out the first few months and see where things are before putting any money down this time.

At this point Blizzard is the only developer I have enough confidence in to preorder any game they put out.

Yes, because of course The Burning Crusades had The Black Temple/Arenas, Wrath of the Lich King had the big end-game fights, and WoW vanilla had PvP ranks, gear, & battlegrounds at each of their seperate launches....

I love how fanboys only go only for what they know and wear blinders to the mistakes of what they like. Every MMO in the history of MMOs have had mistakes at launch and any MMO to launch in the future will have the same problem (yes, even Blizzard's next MMO will have mistakes, bugs, and/or missing content).

The difference is that Blizzard actually fixed their "mistakes, bugs and/or missing content" whereas with AoC and WAR the games are still fundamentally flawed months or even years after release. Neither game came close to living up to their pre-launch hype which is why I said even though I'm interested in Secret World I *won't* be buying it until several months after launch to make sure Funcom learned their lesson from AoC.
