Champions Online dated for release on July 14th

During an event in the UK today, Cryptic's Bill Roper revealed that Champions Online will officially launch on July 14th 2009 in both the United State and Europe. The launch date, while a tiny bit further than expected, is probably for the better since Jumgpate Evolution is releasing in the middle of June anyhow. If both of these games hit in the same month, we'd probably lose our minds.

Finally having a definitive release date is incredibly exciting and means we can now commence the tailoring of our superhero costume that we'll wear on launch day in order to celebrate. Of course, you won't be seeing that because well let's face it, we're going to be staying home waiting for Champions Online in the mail, dressed like the No Pants Man.

Keep your eyes sharp, as we're sure there'll be additional information from this event sometime soon.

I hope I get into their beta earlier then. Not that a mid-summer release is bad, but it is the time I am far less likely to stay in front of my computer rather than enjoy the weather.

Why would you want in on a Cyptic beta? It's just pure pain with the testing schedule they have.. It is mostly some crazy ass one weekday like a Thursday at 5pm to 7pm in the Australian time zone.

Cyptic is one of the only companies that has never said THANKS to the beta testers in the past for helping out.

So If I get a key for Champs, I will pass it along to you Brian..

As far as I know, this is just for the PC version.

On one hand I'm psyched they announced it after my summer class term. But on another, it's smack in the middle of my month of travel. Might have to extend my hermit time to fit this in.

On the one hand its good to have a release date. On the other hand, I know a guy who knows a guy in beta who says its unlikely they can get it released that soon based on its current state.

The only way you'll run this on a Mac is via bootcamp, I'd imagine.

One of the devs confirmed in a chat or something that he runs the game at present via bootcamp on his Mac and it actually runs better than his PC at work. I think that bit is quoted here: http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=13693

I'm really looking forward to this release, having played the PnP version many, many years ago. I always loved the humour of the sourcebooks. Hopefully they can preserve soem of that in-game.
