Runes of Magic takes up the warhammer with their version of public quests
Filed under: Fantasy, Game mechanics, Patches, News items, Free-to-play, Runes of Magic
When dealing with a game that's already known for incorporating the best features of many different MMOs into its core design, it was only a matter of time until some aspect of Warhammer Online showed up inside of Runes of Magic. And now, that piece of design has revealed itself -- public quests in the form of new "public encounters."
Runes of Magic has announced their first encounter, "Attack on Segarth Outpost," as a battle between the defenders of Segarth Outpost and the wolves of the forest. The setup for the encounter is a classic public quest setup featuring 3 waves of wolf attackers that concludes with the appearance of Axis, the wolf king. If players should be successful in destroying Axis, he will leave behind a treasure box filled with all sorts of goodies for players to collect.
This is only the first of the public encounters, and Runewaker Entertainment's Tony Tang has hinted at more coming in the future, possibly even involving the Demon Lord himself!

Nothing wrong with this; it's a compliment when a game takes aspects of another game and incorporates in into their own and it can be a great thing.
Imagine, for example, if WAR had actually implemented DAoC's RvR system!

Hopefully people might figure out ways to make PQs even better. I think it is a shame in WAR that it is so hard to find people to run PQs.

For some strange reason I like the fact that runes blatently rips off other games ideas, I think in the end its going to be a very well rounded game! I dont play it as much as other games but I do enjoy the time I spend.

I think Public Quests are a great new feature for ROM to embrace. I have played ROM off and on for several months now, and it defiantly needed this kind of boost. I just wish they would also copy the influence point and chapter reward system that goes with WAR Public Questing. That is a great way to get good gear into the hands of new players/characters without making it free. I think WOW and other games could benefit from this kind of quest mechanic system.
Perhaps a Public Quest driven open PVP zone would be the next step for this.
