Final Fantasy XI celebrates seven years with their Adventurer Appreciation campaign
Filed under: Fantasy, Final Fantasy XI, Culture, Events, in-game, News items, PvE, Consoles

It's been seven eventful years since chocobos and moogles have invaded MMOs, and Final Fantasy XI is still going strong as they celebrate another anniversary with their player base. Of course, any intrepid adventurer knows what the Adventurer Appreciation holiday is all about. It's not that the moogles come out and give away free items or how they recount many insane statistics to you, like how many times you've talked to NPCs. No, it's not about any of that.
It's about getting your Anniversary Ring to boost experience gain again! Wooooo hooooo!
*Ahem* Excuse me. It's more than just getting a massive experience boost. Especially this year, with the rumor of ancient and powerful Mog Tablets resurfacing across all of Vana'diel. Who knows what's truly in store for this year's event, but it's certain to be worth your while! The campaign will start with the appearance of moogles in the city squares on May 12th and will end on May 25th.
Remember, if you still have your ring from last year, use your charges before getting a new one! You can't get a new one, until you throw your old one away!

Technically, 7 years since the Japanese release. Which was.. like, a year and a half before we ever saw a NA release? Something like that. Too lazy to go look it up.

If only they would upgrade the whole engine a la EVE Online i would get into playing it. It feels so archaic, i cant even get into it.

FFXI is one of the cheaper MMOs to play at a montly cost of 9.99. and the GFX compaired to other MMO's from 7 years ago, have held up over that time. It's still one of the better looking games i've played. That aside I've played since North America PC launch. then took a break about a year ago in '08. I just recently came back and found myself swept away again. It's a differnt game when you're not stuck to a tight Sched of an "End Game" LS. it's fun to hop in for an hour ro two and do Fields Of Valor" (Solo monster kill quests for Exp) and the Level Sync Option and really made group exp parties easy to find. Now if i could just make some money.

you can edit it to bring the resolution of the textures really high up to like 2046x2046 or something and it looks very crisp and nice.

I had raised everything the game had, hacked the reg to get higher res mapping etc, forced AA and texture AF, But the game still looked super dated. I didn't play the game for long, but it just looked empty and barren.
I quit WoW some months ago, but was able to get straight into EVE because of how good it looked. SE should just revamp this whole game and bring it to the next gen instead of creating a new MMO. Make it at the very least DX9 req and DX10 optional, bring a ton of new content and make early lvl xp tables lower. That would be like doing a game restart so that new people could get into this.
