New SWTOR video explores Trooper class development
Filed under: Video, New titles, News items, Star Wars: The Old Republic
BioWare offers us a look into the development and philosophy behind the Trooper class for Star Wars: The Old Republic in their latest Developer Dispatch video. They explore the different looks a Trooper can sport, which is everything from Hoth stormtrooper inspired snow gear to the Rebel forces' reds, oranges and whites. Of course, there's plenty of fresh looks as well, for players desiring a less traditional look.
The video also goes into the animation of the Trooper and reveals a little of the motion capture sessions complete with prop miniguns. It's quite easily one of the most interesting videos to come out of the Star Wars: The Old Republic project, so we hope that BioWare sees fit to do the same for each of their classes in the coming months. You can find the full video after the break.

Okay, I'm confused.
Doesn't this take place 5000 years before the trilogy? Why are these costumes "inspired" by Stormtroopers and the Rebellion, and why was that guy talking about Troopers "fighting the Empire" which wasn't even founded until Episode III?

Sith Empire, not the Galactic Empire. Two different things =P

Glad someone asked cause I'm not nearly the Star Wars nerd that my brother is.

I believe it's 3000 years before the trilogy. The armor is inspired by stormtroopers/clonetroopers for two reasons. 1. It makes them easily identifiable with the Star Wars 2. This armor is well before the stormtroopers so they kind of reverse engineered it to make it similar and yet make it appear that TOR armor inspired the storm/clone trooper armor.
Also it isn't that hard to believe that 3000 years later they are still using similar designs since we are still doing the same thing. Instead of chainmail its kevlar. Knife/sword design has really havn't changed at all except the alloys we use. It's even more believable if you think they hit a technology barrier that stops them from progressing at quicker rates. We kind of hit that with the 1 atom transistor. How do you make it smaller than 1 atom!?!?

i really enjoyed this. I like how they don't try to overhype the game, the way warhammer did, they just tell what they're mind set is with whatever they are talking about.

I'm not sure how far along they are but the video looks great so far! Animations look like they will be fluid which is nice.

My question now is which mechanics are they going to use in obtaining all the gear and weaponry. This will be interesting to see.
