Aion's first video podcast is packing lore and stunning visuals
Filed under: Fantasy, Video, Aion, Interviews, News items

As the September launch date approaches, NCsoft has been kicking Aion promotion into high gear. Their latest marketing effort is a four-part series of video podcasts hosted by IGN. The first part came out on Friday and serves as a crash course on the lore behind Aion, Atreia, and the three main factions called the Asmodians, Elyos, and Balaur (the NPC dragon race that sets up the PvPvE system).
The video really gives you a good look at Aion's very own fourth pillar (sorry BioWare, you might have some competition here) and is full of stunning in-game footage, cinematics, and staff interviews. Closed beta is currently in full swing and we're keeping tabs on it for you.

Let's hope that doesn't turn into another fiasco like with Jade Raymond.

I met Lani at Gencon Indy last year she is an awesome person and extremely knowledgeable about games..especially MMO's. I think if NCsoft actually listens to her input on what Western gamers want, that the franchise will do well.

Hopefully she will at some point realize that rootkits such as Gameguard are not one of those things.

That whole tower of eternity in the sky in aion is 1 big crappy static bitmap picture, it doesn't look very good at all.

Game doesn't look all that special to me. I'm looking forward to Star Trek and Star Wars most of all.
But I wish MMO's would do new stuff instead of just killing millions of rats/trolls/frogs/whatever.

Kinda pisses me off that they make it sound like their idea of flight was first.
A NCsoft game that doesn't recognize another NCsoft game, named City of Heroes. At least CoH's flight is not limited like Aion's is.

I was thinking the same thing! I was just flying in CoH last night.

Ive been beta testing Aion this weekend and I gotta say, it will indeed fit the high quality title that we've been waiting for in the fantasy genre, not like World of Warcraft, but in a more mature* sense, alot of gamers all ages will most definitely be attracted to the game, Warcraft veterans will get this game for the new game mechanics alone.
But yes, the visuals, the music, the art concepts, theyre all stunning, and they fit an IP that hasnt been presented in games before, maybe not even in fantasy fiction!

I was skeptical before I tried it.
It combines Crysis Engine, great controls, good combo chain mechanics, and nice UI.
I played beta and the sense of fighting is really fun and the controls are very responsive which is great for PVP.
Don't let the naysayers deter you from trying it.
I've played tons of MMO and this one is very special IMO.

LOL Now I seen the video I was like hey a head writer so they rewrite all the quests for this mmo?! Or did they translate?!! They really try make believe this people in the video did design and make this game there is noting about the true that its really a Asian import MMO type game... Also they marking it like a RPG/PVE game when pretty much all the end game the original got is pvp.... And from what I played the Lore quests part pretty much is gone from the game after your got your wings with a few quests.

They ARE re-writing everything, it's not a simple Korean to English port that's completely wrong. All quests are rewritten over with myth and lore common in western culture. I don't understand what you mean by all lore quests end after level 10? There's quests all the way through... If you mean the cut-scenes those may become few and far in between, that's perfectly normal You get cutscenes for epic story lines usually and not for all quest lines in the game. I can't comment further because I never got that far.
Yes end game is PvP focused, however there is a mob faction that gets into the mix hence the PvPvE, and there are and will be more instanced dungeons and such for the PvE players.

The problem is will be.... the last "heavy lore" game that I did buy was Age of Conan... but you known what happen after level 20 I did fear that this was going to happen also in this game. However you are right on your points and all we seen so far of the real English version is a beta.

I'm sorry. I can't forget Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault and what NCSoft did to them. Aion is not for me .....

So, you're not going to even try a free trial, simply because you don't trust the company that owns the company that is making the game. Try it, make biased decisions later.
Lichbane said on 12:55AM 6-23-2009
Yes ... the company that has the right the close the game.
And who knows how long it will be before the close the game your playing? No thanks. been through that twice. Not doing that again.
